DarrenHDNew Blog article: Getting your Classic Amiga ready for OS4.120110128 17:19
I have published an article on the Hyperion Blog entitled "Getting your Amiga ready for AmigaOS 4.1 Classic".

The link is here: http://blog.hyperion-entertainment.biz/?p=138

Any comments and/or feedback is appreciated. I can certainly update the post if anyone else has some good ideas to add to the article.

Thanks!

@DarrenHD

Interesting that only drives on motherboard IDE or CSPPC SCSI ports can have 4.1 installed to. (I perhaps forget that this is the same for 4.0) Can drives on other cards be used after booting? (I forget that too) The DKB Rapidfire/Spitfire did a far better job with my ZIP drive disk detection than any other controller I have for example. I suppose there's a compatibility list somewhere, can you remind us?
DarrenHDRe: New Blog article: Getting your Classic Amiga ready for O20110128 18:06  #1452
@billt

The list here: http://www.acube-systems.biz/compatibility/

Mostly still applies, with addition of a compatible Radeon graphics card on a Mediator or Prometheus.

@DarrenHD

That blog entry sounds just like you present some "cover paper of CD", or booklet for shows when you want to sale it :) And part about "go at forums and enjoy" its like "i wish you be madness" :) (some users for sure will never want to read most of amiga forums, maybe except of amigans.net)

Anyway, good that it all done, and soon developers/testers can concetrate on update3, in which i really hope will be new shell and usb2.0 (fingers on the cross)

@kas1e

There is a printed 26 page full colour manual and proper box, CD, and boot floppy that will ship with AmigaOS 4.1 Classic, the same quality of other AmigaOS 4.1 releases. There is also an extensive FAQ that will be released when the product ships.

My blog entry was just to help users get ready for it, nothing more ;) It won't serve as the manual :)

AmigaOS 4.1 Classic is receiving just as much attention as any of the other supported platform by Hyperion, and you can be sure there are plans to support it on an equal level as other platforms for the forseeable future, so don't worry :)

@DarrenHD

are the voodoo cards still supported? even if, i guess, will it not possible to use compositing?
DarrenHDRe: New Blog article: Getting your Classic Amiga ready for O20110128 22:15  #1463
@nubechecorre

Yes Voodoo 3/4/5. Compositing: Only on Radeon. Well, you can turn it on on any graphics card but it's too slow, except for the Radeon where you can see in the video's I've posted it's working fine.

Great article, Darren. Looks like I only need to get a ZorRAM and I'll be good to go.

I've noticed that in this blog post that SATA cards are not mentioned although it was announced at amiwest and that Darren is using a Silicon Image 3512 card with its OS4 classic box.

Is it an unfortunate oversight?
DarrenHDRe: New Blog article: Getting your Classic Amiga ready for O20110203 02:30  #1737
@davebraco

SATA support will be there. Not sure exactly what chipsets yet, but Silicon Image 3512 most likely, perhaps a few other Silicon Image chips too. Of course the PCI card itself has to be electrically compatible with your Mediator. 5V or 3.3V depending on your model.

@DarrenHD

Hi Darren, any info about a release date? :-)

Another info, please, re-reading the news on the blog, i noticed that:

256MB RAM (Blizzard PPC only)

Does Amiga 4.x only support 256 mega on the Blizzard PPC and not on the Cyberstorm PPC?
nbacheRe: New Blog article: Getting your Classic Amiga ready for O20110203 23:16  #1755
@nubechecorre

As far as I know, the CSPPC can only take modules of up to 32 MB each, i.e. max. 128 MB in the four slots.

The BlizzardPPC can take 128 MB modules and has two slots available if you have a BlizzardVision card attached to it.

Best regards,

Niels
DarrenHDRe: New Blog article: Getting your Classic Amiga ready for O20110204 15:23  #1762
@nbache

You are correct: 128MB maximum physical memory on Cyberstorm PPC, 256MB on Blizzard PPC.

Users with Cyberstorm PPC's can add a Zorro 3 memory card to use as a swap partition or make a swap partition on hard disk, or both.

What about FastataMk3.Will it be supported?

DarrenHDRe: New Blog article: Getting your Classic Amiga ready for O20110204 17:08  #1767
@tommysammy

Yes it should work if you enable "AllowBasePageAccess", same as for 4.0.

@DarrenHD

Thanks for the answer
