AmigaPapstHow fast is GL Quake 1 on your Amiga?20110306 10:03
I have tested the new version of glQuake 1.09b7:
http://os4depot.net/index.php?function=showfile&file=game/fps/glquake.lha

Start parameters:
stack 1000000
glquake_aos4 -width XXXX

Test->timedemo demo1.dem

Sorry but I cannot confirm that the new version is 10% faster. Problem with my configuration?

New values:
640x480= 109 fps
800x600= 97 fps
1024x768= 71 fps
1280x960= 64 fps
1600x1200= 48 fps

old values with 4.0 Update 4:
640x480 = 113,9 fps
800x600 = 103,1 fps
1024x768 = 75,1 fps
1280x960 = 65,2 fps

Please test it on your configuration and compare, thanks.

@AmigaPapst

Heres what i get using a Radeon 9250 256mb.
I did n`t use the stack.
640=110.1
800=95.6
1024=65.9
1280=59.8

For me this version looks a lot better.
I changed a few settings in game and all it seemed to do was slow it down by at least a third.

Your 9000 pro is still that little bit faster. :)

i can't. i have a SAM440ep-flex (at 667MHz) and a radeon 9250 -- and i've never been able to run GLquake on it. the old version died with some odd 'hunk alloc' error, and the newer version just freezes the system.

i play quake often, and would love to get this working. any ideas, folks?

@AmigaPapst

I'm sorry, but I don't see how to find the values. What do I need to do?

@eliyahu

Can't help you here. The game runs on my Sam440ep @666MHz, but it's slower than molasses in February as to be totally unplayable.

I have a SAM440 at 800, and have the same problem, "hunk alloc" error.

I copy the ID1 drawer from my working 2.4 Quake port, to the new GLQuake, and give me the alloc error.

Then I see, that in the ID1 drawer it's a GL drawer and a config file, I deleted both, restarts the GLQuake and then works fine.

It's better in graphics, but a bit slow, compared with the 2.4 version.

How I can test the fps ?

@Valiant
@eliyahu
Open the console and write timedemo demo1.dem
Please close the console during the test.

@AmigaPapst

On a SAM667ep (without last Acube memory patch)

Original version in 1024x768:

969 frames 56,7 secs 17,1 fps

GL version in 1024x768:

969 frames 21,8 secs 44,3 fps

GL version is more darker than the original.
GL version have better hires gfx than the original version.

@RIBDEVIL1

thanks for the tips. tried deleting the GLquake drawer under ID1, and... still freezes. actually it shows a DSI error, for which i have a crash report. to move forward, i ignore them and eventually the system freezes.

meh. i'm very much looking forward to hunoPPC's work on darkplaces being made available.

glad it's working for others, though. just wish i had enough OS4 experience to debug this properly. :-)

G4@1400 + 9000 pro + very stressing ram timing.

The first result is with the very default configuration.

The framerate between () is the result obtained with "scr_conspeed 99999", making the console disappear instantly (better framerate).

640x480: 120 (126)
800x600: 104 (110)
1024x768: 73 (77)
1280x960: 68 (73)
1600x1200: 50 (52)

Tips: Build a file "autoexec.cfg" in the ID1 drawer and type:

+mlook
gl_texturemode gl_linear_mipmap_linear (much much nicer)
gl_warp 0 (torchs!!!)

This wont affect the framerate and make the game looking nicer.
