fairdinkemI'm having problems with Netsurf 2.620110104 03:07
Hi everyone,

I recently have had several attempts to install and use Netsurf 2.6, at first I thought I had a corrupted download as I was using OWB and it has no dowload manager to monitor the download progress or success.

When I went to install I go through the usual installation process create a directory etc once installed I go to the installed directory there is no icon just an executable file so I double click on it and sure enough Netsurf 2.6 loads up everything seems fine.

What I am finding however is I surf about three sites on average and it then crashes, it completely locks up my system and needs a hard reset except on one occasion I could multi task out and do a soft reboot.

I notice netsurf really doesn't like Youtube I think/am guessing it doesn't like Youtube due to lack of Java support.

Before I end this post I would like to restate I downloaded and reinstalled Netsurf 2.6 approximately 4 times each time it installed with no icon just the executable file. Netsurf on average crashes after surfing 2 or three pages but on one occasion after loading I went to Youtube via direct URL input and it crashed straight away.

I write this thread asking has anyone else had the same issue as I looked in the forum and there appeared to be no thread discussing Netsurf 2.6.

What I am finding however is I surf about three sites on average and it then crashes, it completely locks up my system and needs a hard reset except on one occasion I could multi task out and do a soft reboot.

this has been my experience as well on my SAM. i am usually able to browse one or two sites and then a hard freeze occurs. unfortunately it is not deterministic, i.e., from run to run a given site may render fine and all is well or may freeze the machine. i haven't been able to narrow it down.

i have tried to stabilize the browsing experience, turning off frames for instance, as netsurf works beautifully when it works. but the stability issues have prevented me from using it on a regular basis. :-(

again this was also my experience. after installation no icon was present for the netsurf tool. i copied and pasted the icon data from the drawer containing the installer.

edit: duplicate entry removed.
chrisRe: I'm having problems with Netsurf 2.620110104 18:39  #742
@fairdinkem

* Try the 3.0-dev version ("test builds" link from the NetSurf downloads page)
* Try adding/changing the line no_iframes:1 in Resources/Options
* If you still get problems read the "Bug Reports" section on http://www.unsatisfactorysoftware.co.uk/netsurf/ - I can't fix it without more info.

The icon problem is a bug in the install script which has since been fixed. You will need to copy the icon across manually from the Resources/Themes/ dir for now.

IMHO that should be the default for Netsurf...

@ChrisH

Yes, agreed, in fact I keep meaning to change it.

I'll do it now.

@fairdinkem

Most sites works well except if they got frames in them. Avoiding those sites NetSurf are pretty stable here.

What I miss most is an option to iconify it (unless I've missed something?).

I'm looking forward to the next release :-)

@all

It has been recommended I include what operating system I am using and hardware so here goes.

Pegasos2 1GHZ CPU with 1GB ram running AmigaOS4.1 update 2 with all Amiupdates.

There were a bug or somethings similar when i asked Chris for such feature, meanwhile you can use the "OptionNoQuit" functionality in NetSurf's prefs (advanced tab)

@Chris

Any news about it ? Can you able to add a real iconify gadget in GUI and menu now ? :-)
chrisRe: I'm having problems with Netsurf 2.620110105 18:45  #757
@samo79

Maybe. I might try it again this weekend if I remember and/or am bored enough. There is a cheat way of doing it which is dead simple to add.

@chris

Yes please, ehm if you are bored enough add also a close gadget in window prefs ;-)

:-)

@samo79

And if Crhis will motivated enough: making "use" button in options do use without exit/run and "save" button which will save everything and do what "use" should do as well (i.e. do all as in other browsers) :)
chrisRe: I'm having problems with Netsurf 2.620110106 20:58  #784
@kas1e

Eh? "Use" does use the settings without saving them, or quitting and restarting (only exception is the "Display" tab which is marked as such).

Saves saves the settings and uses them.

I suppose I could change it so Use uses the settings and also remembers them until you reboot, but I suspect that would be more annoying than helpful.
