New version of Quake (v2.21) available
Not too shy to talk
Not too shy to talk

See User information
For those who are interested, there's a new version of Quake available on OS4Depot which fixes some nasty bugs, has some optimizations, triplebuffering, and now works perfectly on Sam440 too.

It runs very nicely in 640x480 on a Sam440, "timedemo demo1" gives around 34-35fps.

Very nice Cobra!

always nice to see an update

Might have to pull out the old Quake Data files in the weekend and give it a whirl!

So wise man stated recently, if we don't use it we lose it... hmmm

First of all thanks because it is a pleasure see how fast can run in software mode at 640x480 Quake on my SamEP440 . Then few things that happens here

If i run the game, the first time i get a GR and even pressing ignore the game won't start giving me this error : " Error Can't Load gfx.wad ". Running it a second time, work perfectly .

I get another GR if i try to run the game at 320x240..

All these errors disappear if i rise the stack at 1000000

So rising the stack solve all problems and Hey man at 320x240 the FPS increase a lot !! about 120fps

Good job :) the game run fine on my SAM440EP...

However, I've noticed that 1280x1024 mode encounter display issue ... display is not stable in this resolution.

All we have to decide is what to do with the time that is given to us.

I'm a bit puzzled by your problem, because the game was tested on Sam440, Pegasos2 and AmigaOne machines running 4.1. Is there anyone else here with a microA1 who could test? Another question: Do you have all the data files in place, and what filesystem(s) do you use?

Nice catch, I have 1000000 stack size by default, so I never encountered the stack problem, I guess I should add a stack cookie to the game to ensure that if the stack it too small it gets enlarged.

Problem solved. It was related to my icon. I switched to a new one and raised the stack.

Wish there was a quakeworld client like fuhquake or ezquake ported for OS4 :D

EDIT: shareware data files are available here:

So far i have been unable to start quake on my uA1 with os4.0.
I start it from the shell with a stacksize of 1000000. it just gives me a GR

According to the crashlog you posted, it seems to be crashing here:

if ((UtilityBase = OpenLibrary("utility.library",36)) == NULL || (LowLevelBase = OpenLibrary("lowlevel.library",36)) == NULL)
Sys_Error("Cannot open utility/lowlevel. OS4.0 required");

So it seems to be a problem with opening either lowlevel.library or utility.library there. Are you sure you have an OS4.0 final system with all the updates correctly installed that were available?

Good job there!

Timedemo demo2

1024x768 14.5 fps

800x600 way faster until a GR appeared.

Is this software render only?

Can it be combined with hardware to see how fast the ATI can run it?

On 5 years old laptop (P4 2.8GHz with ATI mobility 7000 IGP)

1024x768 37 FPS

So not bad at all

The game runs fine here at 1024x768 15fps, at 640x480 35fps and at 320x240 110-120 fps

For the hw render we have to wait until the warp3D problem will be fixed

This is great news, now we need hardware renderer and Quake 2 and 3 sorted out.

Then I would like to be able to run Heretic II, Freespace, Wipeout 2097 and Shogo.

Payback runs already I think

Excellent stuff!

@all

What is the latest versions of utility.library & lowlevel.library for os4.0 ?
