Silicon Image devices on classic AmigaOS 4

Hi everybody,

Am I the only person who's tried to attach a Sii card to an A4000 with AmigaOS 4? I noticed the kmod files aren't present on the classic version so I copied them over from my AmigaOne. In theory it should work, as long as the PCI wrapper is good enough for my Prometheus and as long as it successfully realises that DMA doesn't work (it shouldn't rely on DMA because many old IDE HDs don't support it).

I've got my A4000 giving the correct version number for sii0680ide.device but in Media Toolbox it just says there's no devices connected.

How do we get this to work on a Classic? The hard part is already done, after all....
Of course the Sii cards will be slow because there's no DMA, but then the Prometheus is slower than the fastest Non-DMA mode anyway (Prometheus is I think 12MB/Sec, PIO goes to 16MB/Sec in theory).

Any thoughts?

Did you add the "MODULE Kickstart/xxx.device.kmod" line to the Kicklayout file?

cheers

Yup, otherwise it wouldn't have been able to find the version number, so it must be loading the module correctly.

The reason why it can't work, and the drivers weren't included on the classic Amiga CD, should be mentioned in the compatibility list. The Prometheus and (some versions of?) the Mediator only provide 5V on the PCI bus, but the SII chips need 3.3V.

No, on 5V-only slots like the Prometheus ones the 3.3V pins shouldn't be connected to anything and PCI cards which need 3.3V just don't get power.

Luckily PCI cards are keyed so that they don't fry with the wrong voltage, like AGP slots.

And it's not fried, it's working fine. :)
