The right memory

I am thinking about buying more memory for my micro...

Both Amigakit and Vesalia seem to have options available - but 'kit's solution is somewhat more expensive (twice as much, actually)

Can any of you tell me which of those Vesalia-memory modules will work in my AmigaONE?

RAM SO-DIMM DDR-333 1024 MB (1 GB), CL2.5, Kingston

RAM SO-DIMM DDR-400 512 MB, CL3, Kingston

RAM SO-DIMM DDR-400 512 MB, CL5, Infineon

RAM SO-DIMM DDR-400 1024 MB (1 GB), CL3, Kingston

RAM SO-DIMM DDR-400 1024 MB (1 GB), CL5, Infineon

Amigakit doesn't list any info about the brand of it's 512-module, but it garanties that it works in an AmigaONE...

A1200 - 50Mhz 030, 16MB

Pay the money and take the guarantee. I don't know how many times we've seen people with obscure problems complaining and then finding out later it was because they took some cheap option.

Yeah, well... Amigakit doesn't sell any 1gb memory modules, so I'm not sure it'll be possible.

And I suppose ssolie talks sense! It would probably be best to splash out and get the more expensive module...

A 1G module won't work in a micro anyway, 512MB is max.

Look, only one leg, count em, one!

Well, I had a feeling about the 512-limit, but it's "nice" to get it confirmed.

But I guess I will hand my money to Amigakit. And with pleasure. Although this memory might be a bit expensive, their service is always excellent...

Edit: Oh, 100!!!

Hi sundown,

Are you sure? Don't microAmigaOne's have 2 memory slots. and can be expanded just as far as A1XEs?

No there is only one slot, and it's btw SO-DIMM slot.
So you cannot fit XE module into microA1..

IIRC the uA1's were a little less finicky about thier RAM, but it was still quite specific, due to the Articia S Chipset, which unfortunately did make the RAM a bit more expensive - but hey, what price stability ?

I bought 512MB for my XE at ?100 which seemed steep at the time, but I've hardly had any trouble with it (other than dodgy software perhaps !!) in the past 4.5 years.

I suggest that you go here http://www.intuitionbase.com/comphard.php to check what kind of memory you buy...

Hi jape,

Is it possible to make a 2 GB SoDimm? It would need 72 chips on it. (256 MegaBits each.)

Hi jape,

I think I've seen 2 GigaByte SoDimms for sale.

BTW, I have two ECC Reg 1 Gig sdrams and they seem to work fine. I rarely have anything in ram over 1 Gig. What is the best way to test if the computer is storing stuff okay? Is there a program that compares every byte of two files against each other, so that I can fill the ram up, and compare files? I don't want a CRC program, as that isn't comparing all the bytes.

Also, the computer's been running as long as 25 days until locking up. This is using AOS4.0 Prerelease 4.

The ram isn't cheap, about $425 per gig.
