Re: An introduction to C programming, Live session in UK.

@Jurassicc

Oh Gosh! I had forgotten all about this! Sorry everyone.

Guess we'll have to see if Chris Y is still up for this. If you are Chris, let me know.

Ta.

@ALL

I know it has been a looong time since this issue was discussed and a lot of negativity has set in.

Therefore, could I please ask those who expressed an interest previously to once more say so again?

I will need to see if the numbers stack up, providing of course, Chris Y says yes

Please note, this will involve travelling, maybe a weekend, or similar and money being spent. So, please say yes if you are 100% up for it.

"Working on" is all relative. In this case, no not really.

This is the source that could be adapted. It's a CLI-based player, MPlayer's is better but probably more work. RAPlay

@Chris

are you working on an RA based plugin?
if it's a tough one, why not pick another one from the list and try?
which source are you using for the ra plugin?

@Raziel

They're pretty straight-forward. The difficult bit is adapting other people's code to work as a plug-in, which is why the RAPlay-based one hasn't even been started yet.

Re: python and threads

@Jack

Ok, appears that python was compiled without threading support. At least that seems to be the reason for the problem...
So putting this on hold for a while.
No amiga audio player has context areas like Amarok (where the lastfm client is bultin and even offline music can be scrobbled while in context area the tracks/artist are clickable and bring up the relevant lastfm pages) so I don't see the point in making a plugin.
I'll try to make the proxy work when it'll be possible and meanwhile I'll see how can I make an "external scrobbler" based on the proxy's code which can support apps like AmigaAmp and Tunenet via AREXX and submit the offline tracks to lastfm.
Once the proxy will function, viewer app can be set to AmigaAmp or Tunenet while the web interface can be used for context-sensitive browsing.

Hi @Raziel

Change the program to "Installer" instead of IconX and off you go...

Oh great, I'm really confused; It's NOT a 'Install' script.
Thanks, but no thanks!

Exactly what is needed... more people asking for something.

Why is it that everybody seems to want and nobody seems to make?

And before you say "I cannot program": If you don't then try to encourage the people that can instead of just asking and demanding. Offer a bounty for example.

Sorry i dont' understand what you are saying..

there is a little difference from someone who kindly ask for something and from someone who expect it..

I DO NOT expect anything i had only asked if someone could ( and repeat COULD ) take up the job of re-porting a game that is desired from the amiga community..

I have always supported the amiga community/market and if you check my account in Hyperion Portal you can see that i have registered ALL the games that you ported to the amiga, so i am ready right now to pay for an amiga version of QUAKE III
The Engine is GPl right ? like Quake II ?..

Re: usb storage question

@abalaban

I have copied the source of the OS4-Printerdriver example to my USB-Stick and the build ends with:
Quote:

compression.o: file not recognized: File format not recognized
make: *** [HP_DeskJet_880C] Error 1

No objectfile has a normal ELF-Header but a LOT 0s followed by junk.

More fun after the first make:
Quote:

2.Leer:HP_DeskJet_CMYK> make clean
rm compression.o data.o density.o dospecial.o init.o locale.o render.o sprintf.o transfer.o

Just deletes the #?.o files but if your next step is:
Quote:

2.Leer:HP_DeskJet_CMYK> make
ppc-amigaos-gcc -c -mcrt=clib2 -O2 -fomit-frame-pointer -fstrength-reduce -finline-functions -g -fno-builtin -DNDEBUG -mno-sdata -Wall -W -Wundef -Wshadow -Wpointer-arith -Wmissing-prototypes -Wmissing-declarations -Waggregate-return -Wwrite-strings -I/SDK/include -o compression.o compression.c
make: *** No rule to make target `data.c', needed by `data.o'. Stop.

... the complete drawer is gone!?

EDIT:
Seems to be a bug in the FAT filesystem, no errors if the Stick uses FFS2.

Can you PLEASE re-read what I wrote before ? I said the quake3 binary must be in the same directory as the baseq3 directory. The latter comes from the Quake 3 install CD. You CAN NOT simply rename a random directory to baseq3 and expect that it works...

jahc's description is very accurate, if you do it like this, you should be fine. For a full reference, I've copied a listing of my Quake 3 directory here:

@TetiSoft

It's a standard USB key used as it was when I unpacked it, i.e. not reformated so I assume it's FAT16.
I'm using an unfixed XE and except than that read/from from/to this key work reliably.

Anyone else who would be able to test that ?

Re: Quake 3 HELP

Not too shy to talk

How to get Quake 3 running:

1. Buy Quake 3 Arena
2. Install it on a PC
3. Download Point Release 1.32 patch for Quake 3, install it in the dir you installed Quake3 in. Note: this patch should be around 27mb in size.
4. Copy the whole installed+patched Quake3 dir to your A1
5. Extract the quake3.lha os4 archive to the Quake3 directory. It should be in the root level of the Quake install (NOT in the baseq3/ subdirectory)
6. Edit "q3" and change the path text to where you've copied Quake3 to on your hard drive

All done! to launch quake3, execute the "q3" script.

re:Adding support to SCUMM.. I looked over the source. It looks like it won't be too hard to do, but I have no clue how to test it. Does SCUMM come with any apps that I can use to check for MIDI support? So far I only Downloaded the source archive.

You need a game that makes use of MIDI hardware/emulation
and plays it music/sound thru MIDI to test.

That would be the best solution imo

Luckily there is one game available which a) is supported
by ScummVM and b) freely available for download on the
ScummVM site: Flight of the Amazon Queen
(You need to scroll down a little, there are different versions,
but i believe the disk version [6.7MB] should be sufficient.
I'd gladly betatest with my CD based versions, of course!)

Quote:

Another option is for me to write the code and then pass it on to a SCUMM developer, but they would need MIDI gear, or Showkeys.

You probably need to add your code to ScummVM's patch tracker
anyway, otherwise the devs will regret it most surely.

Then you have the following options:

chat.freenode.net
channel: #scummvm

ask sev and tell him i sent you

or

The ScummVM forums
You can ask anything and they are very fast and helpful

or

you can simply pass me the request and i'll forward it to
one of the main devs...

But i think it would be better if you'd talk coder to coder...
