@cygnusEd

AmiCygnix - maybe with standard AmigaOS 4 theme?

http://os4depot.net/share/graphics/theme/aosx11-theme.lha

Aqua is fine, but this is Mac theme. ;)

@cygnusEd

What can I say. Brilliant work. All of a sudden we get an XCel capable spreadsheet to match the already available (and I have used it many, many times) Abiword. Don't forget we have the very capable PowerPoint viewr PointRider as well (native).

I started playing with Cygnix tonight just to see how fast or slow it is under the latest update, believe me it is no slouch as it stands so any improvement will be great.

Thanks go to you and your team for the great work.

@spotUP

Sorry for the long silence. I think you're right, it's time for some news

The reason for the silence is, that I have recompiled the Cygnix package completely. Cygnix will be renamed to "AmiCygnix", because on Windows exists a similar system with the same name.

This is new:

* Compiled with newlib instead of clib2. The performance is better and the binaries are smaller now.
*The Unix paths are removed now. No USR:, ETC: ... is needed anymore. This will avoid collisions with
other Unix ports and with the SDK.
* Environment variables must be located in "ENVARC:Cygnix" now. This is also done to remove collisions.

This also means, that old software will not run on the new Cygnix anymore. Maybe I include a "compatibility
mode".

Here are some new programs, which are nearly finished:

To make the Gnome-Office package more complete, I've compiled the spreadsheet Gnumeric 1.63. Here is
a screenshot:

Resized Image

I don't know, if this is interresting for someone, but these programs are also compiled. Would be nice, if you can
give me some feedback:

* Bluefish. A nice editor with syntax highlighting and online help for programmers. Easier to understand than VIM:

Resized Image

* Pidgin 2.2.0. The latest version of the chat software.

* Pioneers 0.11.3. A "sedlers of catan" clone with internet support:

Resized Image

* gmysqlcc 0.2.6. A mysql admin tool with MySQL 5.0.58 support. Also the commandline client are available.

* xpdf 3.02 - the original PDF viewer.

* Xaos 3.1.2 - a fractal renderer.

* and some more...

I'm think it will need some more months for a new release of Cygnix. A report in the Amiga-Future magazine said,
that there will be a Update 4 available soon, but this is not true.
As said above, the next version will be a release called "AmiCygnix" and will (hopefully) contain
an enhanced X server (If I can make it, it will be version X11R7.3, but I'm not sure,
if I can make it).

Greetings
CygnusEd

Have you heaqrd since you left.

1. Both parties came to an agreement.
2. Ack's HW was released.
3. ACube's HW was released.
4. Both Ack and ACube got licensed.
5. OS5 is available for both platforms.

Only one of these staements is true, guess which, maybe I should start a poll.

Yes I have notices, this where annoying when things does not work as they are suppose to work, I tried mount few different partitions on my PC hard drive whit no success.

The disk contained a none standard partition table, because it contained 2 or 3 primary partitions, and then an extended whit few logical partitions whit in, Linux on some partitions and windows on others.

It nice if the old way mounting disks where supported some how, or if AmigaOS supported MBR format; that way don?t need spend hours wondering way things are the way they are.

@LyleHaze

Quote:

Yes, that is correct.
If it doesn't open CAMD, then CAMD won't work with it.

Exception: In the early days of CAMD there was only "in.0" and "out.0", both from the builtin serial port.

If the program tries to open camd.library and will only connect to "out.0", then yes, you CAN use OS4 camd.. You only have to use the "MidiThru" shell command like this:

midithru out.0 via686.out.0

That command will "create" out.0 and feed everything coming into it to via686.out.0

All of this assumes that your scummVM program is opening camd.library..

Oh

Then is most defintitely won't work as ScummVM cannot know
about CAMD.library from Amigaland...hmmm

Still, ScummVM relies on the system it runs on to provide a
"default" MIDI port to be opened and use this, so it should
be possible to simply open up the MIDI port with a little
program, then start ScummVM and see if it spits something
out.

I'll try the midithru command you mentioned

Is there a little command that opens via686.out.0?

What is XFSD?

10.OS4:> version l:xfsd full

Search on Aminet for "XFS".
I have a partition left on my harddrive, back from the
old days, which contains some FAT partitions with a Win95
installation. I vaguely remember that it was tricky to
create the mountlists years ago because xfsd does not
understand MBR, the LowCyl values had to point to the
sector with the FAT bootcode. And the partition had to
be inside the 4GB limit. XFSD still works with OS4 here
and supports long file names. My mountlist for "PCD":

Quote:

/* IBMIDEDOS D: per XFS */
FileSystem = L:xfsd
Flags = 0
Device = scsi.device
Unit = 0
Surfaces = 1
BlocksPerTrack = 1
SectorSize = 512
LowCyl = 3186266 /* PCC mounten, genml, (highcyl-lowcyl+1)*surfaces*blockspertrack+lowcylPCC*/
HighCyl = 3590565 /* PCE -1 */
Reserved = 0
PreAlloc = 0
Interleave = 0
Buffers = 50
BufMemType = 0
StackSize = 16000

I believe that they are working something BIG. I don't have a clue what that is, but something inside me tells me so. Also, at the latest Amiga Future there is a review of the version #4, if I'm right, which I haven't seen it anywhere.

@LyleHaze

So, what your saying basically is

If a program does't know about camd it can't use MIDI?

e.g. ScummVM has no possibility to choose the MIDI driver
to explicitely speak to. It just assumes there is a default
one set and tries to use that one.

Hmm, seems i have to wait for the hardware and try...

Thanks for the clarification

Re: CAMD, OS4 and MIDI hardware

@Raziel

@Raziel

Please dont!

The MIDIPrefs is no longer used or needed. It was phased
out with the port to OS4.

Each program that uses CAMD is supposed to save it's own
setting and go back there when reopened.

Some of my CAMD tools just use a tooltype in the icon.
Some don't use anything (even if they should).

All the midi drivers in devs:MIDI will be opened when CAMD
is first opened, so you will have access to all your different toys.

Thre is also a USB MIDI driver that installs as a USB driver, but will still show up in CAMD cluster requesters.

Reminder: the via686 driver is OUT only. You can get MIDI IN working by adding a soundblaster card, or by using one or more class-compatible USB MIDI interfaces. I've had success with all of these (even all at once!)

Finally, some developers are hard-coding their programs to require the word "in" or "out" in the cluster name. This is a mistake. Clusters can be created by the user at any time, and can have any name.

As an example, I have a BCR2000 control deck connected to a MIDI controlled mixing board. All the links between them get complicated, and it's harder to add other applications. So I have it all sorted through a cluster called "Mix".

Some of the current MIDI applications will NOT connect to a cluster called "Mix", they either won't let me enter the name, or they change it to "mix.out.0" (which is useless)

This was covered pretty well in the original CAMD documents. The file "camd.intro", section titled "Establishing Links"

Sorry about the rant. Let us know when you get the MT32
playing music!

Lyle
