@Amigamancer
If something is destroying your ADSL modem, it's most likely a spike on the telephone or electric wire and/or a problem with the splitter. I've abused ADSL and network equipment a lot and the only time something has broke is in relation to a thunderstorm.

Hi. @Futaura Quote: Futaura wrote: @Amigamancer
Presumably, both these PCMCIA cards are/were old-style 5v 16-bit cards? IIRC, the A1200 PCMCIA port always supplys 5v, and if you use a newer card in there that works on 3.3v, you're obviously going to experience problems.
Both cards were bought from 2 different Amiga users, who tested the cards on their own system. I can't say 100% that they are the 5v type, but i suppose they are. Quote: Onto case 2... Are you able to try your new router on a PC or anything? This would help deduce whether the router or the PCMCIA card may have been damaged. You are right. I know how strange this sounds, but i only have 2 Amiga 1200 in the house. Quote: Also, you mentioned tweaking settings... Sorry if I'm stating the obvious, but presumably this didn't involve playing with the LAN settings and IP addresses? If you change the IP address, netmask, DHCP settings, etc, of your router, you also need to mirror these changes on your Amiga especially if you are not using DHCP. Like i said, i reseted the modem/router to "factory defaults" by pressing the "reset" button, but it didn't help.

I've no idea if it works under os4, but secondspin ripped, encoded and checked freedb too afair, so, if it works, I think it's the tool to use.

@SimplePPC
If I just load the highwayusb.device.kmod and disable all the actual USB modules, it'll still crash when I format a disk. That's with nothing plugged in at all, just loading the kmod is enough to make it crash - the mere existence of it.
I do wonder if perhaps it's getting caught up in the interrupts - loading the device will put the Highway device driver into the interrupt chain, and I presume both the disk interfaces and the Highway use interrupts too....

scandoubler + monitor probs (fixed!)

hello all. I just got a 1200 with an internal scandoubler installed in it. (Not sure what kind, though) I also have a Mitsubishi Diamond Pro monitor that I've been trying to use a super-72 driver on. (I want an 800x600 res. workbench) I've tried the alternative super-72 drivers on Aminet, and endlessly tinkered with moned. The most stable I can get the thing is this. Anybody have similar probs with this sort of thing? Thanks for any help.

No reply from France, but I was looking for pc equipment to play with. Here's another question though.... even if we can remove/replace the PPC, is there a supply of replacement chips? Plaz

Just had another go at getting my Terratec 512i sound card working.
Did everything by hand. Now working fine.
Thought I had done that before but perhaps missed something.
Still can't get TV card displaying though. Sound comes through but no picture.
Tried AmiTV but it crashes on launch.
@ Rogue
Any progress on the new kernel?

Lets hope they didn't reflashed it with a software containing a limited interface (to prevent ppl from doing things to save themselves dealing with configs more complex than defaults they decided on). Any "login" dialog there? Usually one has to authorize to get access to the settings.

nuffin' ! only status stuff - probably locked/reflashed, like you say ! after all even the computer illiterate can get a broadband connection !

I am against of cross-posting the same thread all over forums because i consider it anti-nettique, but this time i have to make an exception because i feel very desperate right now.
I have an Amiga 1200 revision 2B from Escom and i'm using it every day, as my main computer. I'm accessing the internet with a dial-up modem without any problems, (like right now that i'm posting this message) but because we all now how slow this is, i decided to go ADSL about a year ago:
CASE 1: I bought a second-hand network card "fiber line 10M ethernet combo" not in a very good shape and a brand new ADSL modem/router "SpeadTouch 536". I set everything up and i started to access the internet with my new ADSL connection. After 10 hours of happy browsing, i started to smell like something was burning and the connection was dropped. The "ethernet" LEDs on both the card and the Modem went OFF forever... This meant that the card could not communicate with the modem. I never managed to connect again with that equipment and thus, i went back to dial-up... I blamed the old and crappy network card back then, but i recently opened the modem and saw that a chip near the ethernet plug was smoked-out. I googled that chip and found that it is a usual transformer but as a IC. I have no idea of what caused the damage. I don't know if it was the card or not.
CASE 2: A week ago, being sick of the dial-up thing, i decided to give broadband a second chance. This time i bought a "KTI PF-16i" ethernet card and a "SpeedStream 4200" ADSL modem/router. Both were brand new. I successfully connected to my modem/router configuration page via AWeb, using either MiamiDX, Genesis or MOSNet. After a couple of hours, while i was tweaking the settings, (entering user/pass, encapsulation mode, etc) i realised that the modem did not responded to my actions anymore! Unlike in the first case, there was no burning smell and the "Ethernet" LEDs remained ON. There are still ON as we speak, but i can not access the configuration page anymore. I tried to reset the modem to "factory defaults" by pressing the appropriate button, it did reset, but this didn't help. I opened the modem and couldn't see any visible sign of damage. I have no clue of what is damaged this time (network card or modem/router) but it's apparent that something is damaged...
What the hell is going on!? Apparently, something is damaging the modem and probably the network card too. It's not a specific brand of card or modem because i tried 2 different brands of both peripherals. I can only assume that it's my Amiga. What sort of malfunction could it have? Where should i look? Everything else works as normal! Is there a known problem with the PCMCIA slot of the Rev 2B? Anyone else had this terrible experience? With which Amiga model?
Am i doomed to stay on dial-up forever with my Amiga?

I doubt it, I think there is only software and general docs on the disk.
I wont bother to look then. thanks for saving me th'effort Quote: Didn't notice earlier that you were in the UK, why are VM handing out something like that? My cable modem is tiny (and VM branded too). Are you in an analogue-only cable area or something?

no, digital. it is tiny, I guess they havent got any virgin branded ones in our depot ! our area went digital about 8 years ago. Scientific Atlanta used to do the analogue tv boxes - thats where I recognised the brand from.
