Re: Prometheus DMA for OS4
Just popping in
Just popping in

@Spirantho

According to the last information sent to the Prometheus mailing list many many months ago, there was new DMA supporting firmware that was still being tested. There was a breif discussion about how the update would be distributed when it was ready because a prom burning type tool would be needed to reflash the firmware. I've not seen any other updates since then.

I have moved all those to a sound_storage directory

Quote:

Click play test sound

Save.
I had set this, but had to also set input to mixer

For your CD Audio, have you connected the CDROM to JP34 or JP33 on the motherboard ? These are the audio in connectors when using the onboard sound.
I am afraid not, I haven't opened my A1 in ages, Hmmm, must be a certain big bash?

Quote:
Run mixer, select ac97 as the device set your levels and save.
I had to change the internal PCM, and internal master sliders to get output.

Quote:
You no longer need the soundblaster in then and therefore can be removed if you want to free up a slot.
I must admit I'd be interested in getting my scsi scanner to work on my A1. What scsi card did you buy?

Quote:
Plug your speakers into the green connector of 3 at the back. (upper of 3).
On my second attempt I sussed that one.

Quote:
As for skipping are you using onboard IDE or an SII based card ? Are you running your disks in PIO or UDMA ?
Turned my A1 on this morning, after doing the above last night and I don't get any skipping.

Thanks for your help.

So if the install script copies the #?.ttf, #?.font and #?.otag files for the font it is installed correctly?

Yes. You can install to a part of the global FONTS: multi-assign
or you can install to PROGDIR:Fonts/ and open the fonts with this
full qualified path name.

@benny

Quite possibly. But that was 2 years ago, and I don't want to pester anyone particularly. I was just thinking because the Prometheus is the PCI card I believe Hyperion are using there must be some progress surely...? If I'm going to get TV cards working under AOS 4.0 I need a fully DMA capable Prometheus....

Thanks for the help though! Maybe I'll drop him a line anyway and see.

Then read again what I wrote:

when Utilities/USBInspector shows
a massstorage medium with a loaded driver its very likely
that typing Ctrl-Alt-M or using Commodities Exchange will
bring up the MassStorage commodity

When USBInspector doesnt show a massstorage device
have a look at T:USB.log. When this doesnt show the
attempt to use a massstorage device, enable Info logging
with Prefs/USB. When this crashes edit ENVRC:USB/System/LOGINFO
by hand (set to 1). When your A1 has no USB fix, the
behaviour when attching an USB device is undefined.

@bean

Looking good.

I'm sure everyone here (including yourself) is quite anxious to see you complete what is on your list.

Is it going to be possible to have the new TuneNet skinnable control interface appear on different screens, so that one could control the playing of music through TuneNet while working on a separate screen?

Thanks,

@Ricossa

Why park your drives? with modern drives it's better to leave them running, it's the heating/cooling and the spin up/down that stress the drive...

But if you want to kill your drives as quickly as possible... use the Commander2 screen blanker module and something like idetool -p devname unit 3 eg.

idetool -p a1ide.device 1 3 >nil:

Erm, the 'Final' edition doesn't work MSD very well.

You dont have 'July' installed???

How does your T:usb.log look?

Assumed that you use July:
Sounds like you have July-Update or USB-HW problems.
Try to copy the USB-Files from 'Final' over 'July' and see what happens.

BTW: Have you send your usb.log to Detlef?

@Swoop

I've just switched back to the onboard sound to free up a pci slot for an lsi53c8xx based scsi card.

Do the following

Delete envarc:mixer.pref
Delete envarc:sys/ahi.prefs
Delete devs:ahi/emu10kx.audio
Delete devs:audiomodes/emu10kx

run ahi prefs

set unit 0

VIA-AC97 Hifi 16 Bit Stereo ++
48000HZ
Channels 10
Volume +0.0dB

In advanced settings select `full volume`

Click play test sound

Save.

For your CD Audio, have you connected the CDROM to JP34 or JP33 on the motherboard ? These are the audio in connectors when using the onboard sound.

Run mixer, select ac97 as the device set your levels and save.

You no longer need the soundblaster in then and therefore can be removed if you want to free up a slot.

Plug your speakers into the green connector of 3 at the back. (upper of 3).

As for skipping are you using onboard IDE or an SII based card ? Are you running your disks in PIO or UDMA ?
