Re: Hi from Pianeta Amiga!

@Swoop

So I guess it's perfectly OK to threaten someone's life so long as you think they caused you some delay in your instant gratification of new hardware, right? I guess it's perfectly OK to hammer, hammer, hammer, hammer at the one YOU want to hold responsible even though there's NO evidence that they actually are responsible, right?

Oh! That's just so balanced of you! NOT!!!

So, why is it that we must blame Amiga, Inc. again? Is it because they own the IP and actually want to paid for it? Sure, Amiga Inc. filed the lawsuit, but it is Hyperion who were refusing to release a final product (even tacking stuff on from the 4.1, 4.x, etc. feature lists in order to keep going without releasing a final product) until Amiga, Inc. confronted Hyperion with Hyperion's actions and gave notice that the contract was null and void because of Hyperion's actions. Why does the owner of the IP get blamed while the company that held it hostage for all these years gets to skate? There's plenty of blame to go around for everybody involved, so try to be a little bit balanced.

EDIT: I mean come on! I was just on the IRC channel and people are suggesting that a gun be mailed to Bill McEwen with a note suggesting that he use it on himself! This goes entirely too far! Bill McEwen is not to blame, and even if he was, such actions would constitute felony offenses in most countries!

Balance yourselves! Please!

Wow!! That's a realy balanced take on the situation....NOT.

@TetiSoft

Murakami say it but it isn't the real important thing.
Back to the question,what are the steps I have to do to configure BOCHS and how about DosBox?

I dream to convert my Amiga on a PC with emulation even if it is too slow.

BOCHS is my choice,but I don't despise DosBox either.

Re: MozAmiga

Just can't stay away

Hi @Alkaron

The AmigaDE is what Amiga wants people to program to, and with good reason: programs written for the Amiga DE run hosted through Amiga OS 4.0, as well as Windows and Linux, both Linux-based and Windows CE-based PDA devices. Applications written to the Amiga OS, by contrast, run only on that operating system.

It's wishful thinking!

Amiga Inc. has Amiga in ... and they kiss PC in ...

We could see WHAT they did for Ami last 5-6 years NOTHING. NOTHING.

Hage is working on OS4.0 and what... Amiga Inc. is doing...

Firefox for Ami would be great, native for OS4.0 this is my dream. Maybe filezila and mail.... ehh :D.

@BillE

You all are right ;).

First think off all is OPERATING SYSTEM, there are tons of "fun" hardware but... even if I could buy a Sam440 I can install (not stable) Linux... which I can do on 5 year old PC...

IF SOMEONE ALLOW ME TO USE OS4.0 (which is ready to go but Amiga Inc... kiss ass to PC users so they DON'T want support Amiga... any more. Go and see AMAZING programs which you can buy from amiga.com...).

I would like to see OS4.0 for Amiga "classic" with PPC (we have it NOW), Amiga ONE (it's there to), Sam440 (suppose to be there) AND Pegasos... yes, pegasos since there is a LOT people using this mobo... unify our people for ONE system, no more divisions :).

And than good programs, we have SOME good one but we need more (I can pay, I pay for PC progrmas why not for programs for AMI???).

There are some programs which we HAVE to have to use today computers.

Sam440 looks for me great (efika is good to but...).

GIVE ME A OS4.0 and SPUTNIK = kreciu is happy. The rest will come in time :).

Ehh, I know that I will wait for this next year, but I used to it...

Kreciu

PS. Now I'm building my A1200/Ebox/Mediator/Voodoo2200/SB128/040.33/32RAM/4xEide.... I'm looking for PPC? But to find it is a miracle... or price is killing...

Ehhh... ;)

ARGB (BE) and BGRA (LE) is constructed formats, while GBAR is what you get when you having (BE) and (LE) problems,

Int32 the words are in revere order.
Int16 the bytes the bytes are reverse order.
Bytes are the same in Intel and Motorola format.

How much slow is BOCHS on an Amiga One 800 Mhz in number per cent statistics comparing to a real PC?

Its of course magnitudes faster than the only existing
"real PC" which had an Intel 8086 (or was it 8088) CPU.
Sorry, could not resist.

On a x86 CPU you can in theory run a PC OS on the hardware
and on BOCHS and you'll get a percentage number. On a PPC
CPU you cant run the PC OS on the hardware ergo you have
nothing for comparison to get a reasonable percentage number.

Oh, BTW:

GBAR is a perfectly valid pixel format, though you are right this is not the standard LE mode we are used to which would normally be BGRA...

I was just looking through Amiga future 68, and re-read page#23 "Test: myX11Setup".

I wondered if there was any news on this, and there is a mention of Cycnix-pre4. These were mentioned to be released by the magazines publication date, but I can't locate them todate.

How much slow is BOCHS on an Amiga One 800 Mhz in number per cent statistics comparing to a real PC?

What options may I introduce in DosBox to happily run it on my Amiga?

Sorry but that's not true. ARGB (BE) is BGRA (LE) and both modes are supported by picasso96.

Take a look at --color formats-- in the Picasso96API.doc

FYI: the byte order is reverse between big and little endian modes (not the word order).

@Hans
Well that?s how ARGB PowerPC / MC680X0 format looks in Intel format,
I have tried optimizing a bit, but 32 bit is slower.

@Elwood
I have tried writing my own Blit command, but it does not give and major effect.

@all
Some good news, in 16bit it a lot faster, but no direct video.

A possibility for 16bit / 32bit direct video is to allocate memory page, then set the memory area as read only, set up fault handler, and implement some kind byte swap on write, I have no idea how fast this can be, I like do some experiments but its a big job to implement
(I think).

Re: OS3.1 disk set for A4000T

Not too shy to talk

@HammerD

Thanks for the response. I have a set of disks that were supplied with the A4000T but they had obviously been stored in a damp place as the disk surfaces are covered in mould. As you know three of the disks are the standard OS3.1 release but the other three (Install, Workbench and Extras) are specific to the A4000T.

As I have a set of disks, albeit faulty, and an A4000T I'm not too sure if there is a problem copying disks? Just a thought.

Re: Make CD

@samo79

..and it's not that user friendly as you might think.

I can think of atleast 5 burner programs on other
platforms which have much better and user friendlier
GUI. But FryingPan is more user friendly than MakeCD
to the same extent than other platforms burner
programs are to FryingPan.

For example why not steal the wizard system from
Nero and implement a similar type to FryingPan.
Simply choose Data, Video, Audio and subtypes and
the GUI sets you up automatically. When you've added
your files simply press burn and everything works.

This is quite ok in FryingPan but nowhere near as
straight forward as in Nero.

Best Regards,

Harry
