Re: OS3.1 disk set for A4000T
Not too shy to talk
Not too shy to talk

@HammerD

Thanks for the response. I have a set of disks that were supplied with the A4000T but they had obviously been stored in a damp place as the disk surfaces are covered in mould. As you know three of the disks are the standard OS3.1 release but the other three (Install, Workbench and Extras) are specific to the A4000T.

As I have a set of disks, albeit faulty, and an A4000T I'm not too sure if there is a problem copying disks? Just a thought.

DosBox is very slow since the OS4 July Update. Is there any new tip to optimize its speed ?

@samo79

..and it's not that user friendly as you might think.

I can think of atleast 5 burner programs on other
platforms which have much better and user friendlier
GUI. But FryingPan is more user friendly than MakeCD
to the same extent than other platforms burner
programs are to FryingPan.

For example why not steal the wizard system from
Nero and implement a similar type to FryingPan.
Simply choose Data, Video, Audio and subtypes and
the GUI sets you up automatically. When you've added
your files simply press burn and everything works.

This is quite ok in FryingPan but nowhere near as
straight forward as in Nero.

Harry

I think those two should be easy to install. But Bochs is very very slow so it's not quite useful IMHO.

@TrevorDick

Hi TrevorDick, the only legal way I can point you is to:

1) The person you purchased your A4000T from
2) The dealer you purchased your A4000T from
3) Amiga Inc.

I have a copy of the disks because I purchased an A4000T new from a dealer. Any A4000T sold new came with the proper disks. I don't know how or who you acquired the A4000T from...The disks must have got lost somewhere along the way...

But legally I am not allowed to give them to you.

Sorry.

OS3.1 disk set for A4000T - SOLVED
Not too shy to talk
Not too shy to talk

Hi, I'm trying to track down a set of OS3.1 disks for my Amiga 4000T. I've got 8 original sets of the standard OS3.1 release but the disk set for the A4000T had a number of changes to the Install, Workbench and Extras disk.

Can anyone help or point me in the right direction. Many thanks

TrevorDick

Seeing where Tao Group is right now, I can't help but giggle about this any less than slashdot people would giggle about an AmigaOS port announcement. Have at it and all, but I see less point for this than a port for OS4 has. DE only really runs on Windows variants, so why not just use or port browsers for Windows variants?

Eh, saw the other post showing how old that project is... I didn't see any dates on anything at their site. Back then maybe it made some amount of sense to support DE with a browser.

Why on earth are they using such a strange colour format? Surely we've got enough variants as it is.

What about swapping the bytes to reorder them as Alpha, Red, Green, Blue?

Don't get me wrong, if I didn't already have an A1-XE I too would be queuing up for one.

It is just not worth getting one as an upgrade as something more powerful would be needed for an Amiga Two.

The reason we have 667MHz in the Sam440 is because there weren't any more poweful SoC (Silicon on Chip) devices available at the time when the Sam was designed, and also the 440EP has a reasonable price tag attached to it.

So there was a technical reason after all, or at least an availabilty issue.

So there are a lot of SoC solutions available now, but these have only been available since very recently, and we are not likely to see any completed boards based on these chips this year.

It sounds good for the future though. One day there may be something to upgrade my A1 to

@Mikey_C

Yester day I did some coding.

* Fixed the mode ID string gadget
* Overlay now works
* Full screen now works

Yet to do:

* Find out way sound does not work
* Some GUI stuff that does not work.

Some bad news:

I?m unable to do direct video access to screens, because AmigaOS does not have a GBAR colour format (Green, Blue, Alfa, Red), so colours are messed up if I try, maybe it works better in 16bit I have not tried, I have therefore decided to render in to a bitmap whit BltBitMapRastPort() this way colour conversion is done automatically (but it?s slower).
