Re: Make AmiUpdate part of OS4?

@Swoop

Thats why I think there should be an API where the 3th party program can call AmiUpdate and say MY progam xxx is located at path yyy.. then AmiUpdate should have a DataBase with all the paths for all programs that support AmiUpdate, then it can fast and easy do version checks.

If this API gets done, it should then be incorperated into the OS IMO, maybe with a Remove program function to.

I'm not bad mouthing Rigo, for I think he has done a great job... but its really only usefull for OS components that have a fixed place on sys:, so see this an Enhancement sugestion for Version 2 :)

Regarding removability, if we are talking about those CF2IDE adapters one can find on eBay, IIRC even on their eBay pages they warn against removing de CF card, so , as TetiSoft says, they supposedly lie regarding the status of the card, reporting it as non-removable: if they'd reported them as removable shouldn't be any problem, don't you think so?

If we talk about Classic (A1200), yes, they can be removed, I have swapped my eth
ernet card and my CF2PCMCIA card adapter more times than I can remember...

@SZAMAN

Well since I was bored and had nothing better to do I started writing "swraid.device" on the weekend and I have now gotten it to the point where it (hopefully) should compile and work (to some extent at least) once I get my A1 working again.

At this point I have only implemented mirroring. I think I will leave striping until I can at least test that the current code works correctly.

I'm using the diskimage.device source code as basis for this project which is why it's going so fast.

Also at some point I will have to write a prefs program of some kind (using ReAction of course).

Ok, when we at least talk about CF-to-IDE Adapter then the CF should recognized as a normal HD. This is what I read about it and users that use CF-to-IDE Adapter told me. Of courese you can remove and replace it with another CF like HD`s. :)

BTW somebody knows if a CF can be dis- connected while Amiga is working? I think this won`t work.

Then give more details. Post your code or something. One cannot tell you what is wrong if you don't say what you did.

io_Error = 0

I get the data I need after the 2en read operation, so it does work.

I thought a CF card connected to the IDE-port would look
just like a HD from the hardware (and software) point of
view? Isn't that what the adapters are supposed to take
care of?

Never owned one. There exist two possibilities, either
the adaptor claims the card would be removable, then
it speaks the truth and the OS or filesystem may prefer
to handle the CF card like a removable medium and not like
a harddisk, or it claims its not removable, which would
be a big lie IMHO.

There exists a way to find it out, just start Media Toolbox
and look if it reports a non-removable harddisk or something else.

strange behaviour (solved!)
Quite a regular

My A1 (XE) behaves strangely:
If I set and save the clock and reboot, the clock starts ticking from the time when it was saved, I reboot again: starts from the same time again (dejavu).
Other u-boot settings seem ok...
The battery is apparrently a new one,

Any ideas?
TIA
Jack.
