Hi @Jack Any ideas?Well, I'm backup and running! Before I put in the new battery, I depolarized the battery contacts in the holder; remove battery and jumper '+' to '-' contact posts. Why? I once had no system clock at all and fiddled around to get it work. I think there's a ballast capacitor in the circuit that loses it's sense of "-" and "+" orientation to the battery. No BS; really!

Re: Make AmiUpdate part of OS4?
|
|
@thread
If i may i take the opportunity to ask you users of AmiUpdate a favour - could you try the following:
Use a custom theme (i for one use Aqua by ToAks)
1. Open up AmiUpdate thru icon (double-click) or Docky 2. Close AmiUpdate (completely shut it down) 3. Open any other program (Reaction or MUI doesn't matter) and close them again Do this a couple ot times...and see if your color 0 has been changed. (You can alos open Palette prefs, but for me nothing changes if i do so, only with opening another program first)
This behaviour is a nuisance (and the reason why i don't use AmiUpdate at the moment) and happens to me every time i open and close it.
Mostly it messes up AWeb, so if you have a chance to install it, do so and test, it messes up the complete background color of AWeb, but also YAM (MUI) is affected and every other program
Simon is aware of that but wasn't able to track down the problem yet (as hes using a plain OS4 install - no custom themes - and me not being able to give enough feedback)
If you come across the same bahaviour, please note it and help me out here
Thanks

Hi @ikir
I think AmiUpdate should be part of OS4 installation,
Yes! I've been offline for a couple months for system repairs and word "update" is running around like wildman in my head- ugh. I'd be curious to know AmiUpdate would handle a situation like mine. I'm not sure of the range of files it handles.

same stuff happened here until I openet config, system tab and changed the pattern to :
#?.(mp3|mp2|aiff|wav)|Track#?
(it looks ghosted but it editable once you click on it, restart of the program is needed afair)
Jack
Edit: BTW: very ineffective way to play CDDA (imho), it reads all the data instead of using internal playback of the device...

Of course not. When files and dirs are moving, there are not moving physically on the disk, as it takes about 2 seconds to move an entire install. back to its dir. and again about 2 seconds to move the install you want to SYS:. Then you reboot.
So 4 seconds to change the system + a reboot, I don't think that is difficult or long to do.
Edit: double post

@salass00 I wouldn't mind a working version of this. I am intending (I have had the drive for about 6 months) to add a second hard drive just to use as a backup.

Bye, TMTisFree Surely just changing boot priority is quicker, and less wear and tear on your hard drive heads.

RWO It is also useful for all those programs that have an Assign:, The only time it will not work is if a program is installed and run from it's own directory without an assign.

So I have to make 4 dirs on DH0 and put each installation on its corresponding dir?
I have to stay secure to make 2 or 4 systems running at the same time.
Once I install all does the computer responds to OS 4.0 Final or does it respond to all the versions installed?
In other words does the system use the more appropiate version of OS 4.0 in order to get the best results?
When I know these things I can install both versions at once.
1) Yes, 4 dirs, one installation in each. 2) This is secure because only the install in SYS: is running. You do not have to bother tweaking Kickstarts ou priorities. 3) Of course not, see 2). It boots only the system that is in SYS: 4) Here are the list of my SYS: on DH0:. The 4 ones are where I store each installations. .Final (empty at the moment because on the root of SYS:) .Final+July .Final+Update4 .Update4 C Classes DEVS Fonts ... Tools.info Utilities.info WBStartup.info So, when I want to test for ex. Update4, I move all files and dirs from SYS: to .Final, and move all files and dirs from .Update4 to SYS:. I hope it's the rigth forum for this question: there are 2 type of usb disk-on-keys.
1. Storage only, can have one or more partitions. Under Linux recognized as /dev/sd(something)1
2. Usually a mp3 player, has "no partition", under Linux seen as /dev/sd(something).
How do I mount the later under AOS4? Nothing interesting in t:usb.log
Thanks, Jack

Well, if you put a CF card in an IDE adapter to make it act like a HDD in every way (that's the point of doing so), then it isn't any more (or less) removable than any other HDD. It's just flash based rather than using some megnetic media of some kind. But still a non-removable HDD...
So, a CF card in a CF2IDE adapter better report itself as non-removable, if it doesn't, then I understand there may be issues...

When I try to use the file requester to select a CD track in AmigaAMP nothing shows up. I have to open the CD icon and drag'n'drop the file onto AmigaAMP for it to play. Any clues as to why the file requester isn't working?

Thats why I think there should be an API where the 3th party program can call AmiUpdate and say MY progam xxx is located at path yyy.. then AmiUpdate should have a DataBase with all the paths for all programs that support AmiUpdate, then it can fast and easy do version checks.
If this API gets done, it should then be incorperated into the OS IMO, maybe with a Remove program function to.

Regarding removability, if we are talking about those CF2IDE adapters one can find on eBay, IIRC even on their eBay pages they warn against removing de CF card, so , as TetiSoft says, they supposedly lie regarding the status of the card, reporting it as non-removable: if they'd reported them as removable shouldn't be any problem, don't you think so?
If we talk about Classic (A1200), yes, they can be removed, I have swapped my eth ernet card and my CF2PCMCIA card adapter more times than I can remember...
