Re: Rosetta client

@Outcast

Yes having Rosetta for OS4 whould make me start crunching again.

I dont know if the client can run without Boinc and Boinc need WxWidget for a possible port to os4.

You got it spot on there. My youngest daughter moans when I need the A1, if she is playing games on it.

@poweramiga
The sound through E-UAE and battlechess on my A1 sounds as good as on my A4000.

Cheers,

Probably a little bit of both. I found a couple of faces at the bottom left of the image. It would be nice if I could crop the image and easily show what I am refering to.

@Renoir

Please attach a serial cable to your a1's port 1, and grab the output during bootlog (make sure to check the serial speed setting in uboot).

Show me that output, we'll fix it.

Just received today 2 1TB HDDs. Will reinstall the system on one of this monster and copy what I need from Update4.

@Ferry

Well I tried your settings. The system boots fine with nothing atached to scsi port. But as soon as I atach something to the scsi port I end up with the black screen of death. Even a warm boot (amiga-amiga-cntrl) ends in black screen of death. So on my Radeon I guess there's no work around for scsi and since there's no drivers for the usb scanners on the market to-day I'll have to wait or get a diff graphics card. Is there a comparable graphics card on the market that is compatible with the scsi and os4? I've found that the voodoo cards I've tried have muddy, smeary colours, giving a blurred image on screen, and are slow by comparison.

renoir

I also tried boting into so4 and then attaching and turning on the scanner. Guess what? Workbench freezes and I have to shut down. Anything attached to the scsi cable causes my a1 to freeze or give black screen of death at bootup.

@Proost Software

If some of you have Amiga roots, then they should have known how many times Amiga community has been promised things which never came to reality.
As such an advise I would say to anyone wanting to do something for Amiga (be it a Software or an Hardware project) is not to announce anything (i.e. work on it quietly) until you have something tangile to show, in order to demonstrate your implication, a downloadable demo for a software project, a public demo of functionning prototype for an hardware project.

Back on subject I find it sad to hear you stop Amiga dev, I would have welcomed Racer, even if I'm not a great gamer. I'm not sure how announcing two projects and having them dropped in less than 1 month (be it on Amiga or not) would affect your company name, especially about the project managing... On the other hand I don't see how Amiga forum and Amigans emails can affect your company name : nobody outside this community cares about our minds and thoughts. Also the best way to get your company name cleaned and worshipped would have been to go on and demonstrate wrong to every septics.... Too bad

PS: I'll tell it again I think the fact your ceasing development will hurt your company more than the Forums and emails you've received. Let's take an example : I'm a potential investor, or Win game buyer, what I'll do first is to search what your reputation can be and how good are your projects. To do this I'll google your name, no doubt Google will output some Amiga forums, but as an average Win user I won't even care about this (I don't even know what on earth an "Omega" could be , however I'll find some YouTube clips, I know very well YouTube and also trust it. Viewing those clips, I'll suddenly realize that an "Omega" is in fact a computer, that you announced to develop two projects for it in less than 1 month, and in this same 1 month you dropped both of them... Not good, if you would asked me...

Back to a quiet home... At last

This is what you can read on proostsoftware.com now:

(it's a horrible flash-site)

"24/06/2007 Amiga dev ceased
Whe have received hate mails, and read several Amiga forums claiming Zombies was a hoax! This news is a shock for us, and
many people should understand that racer & MDK are free projects! Whe are a small company and our 2 PC projects are prior to all! The Amiga ports have been in progress because
some people at Proost software have Amiga roots.
However if this damages our company name, whe have no
other choice! Racer have made some good progress
for Amiga if someone wants the project mail us...."

I think this must be a bad joke.

Ah, modules, that's what the problem was.

PM me your email address and I'll send the code to you.

IIRC I'm using at least one 3rd party module though, which might cause problems.

I?ve got a bit of a game of imagination for you to play.

Yesterday I took a few photographs. Today I finally got the chance to look at them, and one of them?when I loaded it up?

Well immediately upon looking at it I saw what could ALMOST have been a sketch of a scene from a fantasy story. I?m not going to tell you (yet) what I saw. I want to know what you see.

One tip: Don?t make the mistake of looking with TOO fine an eye, or you might miss something.

OK, here?s the photo.

Re: The PortablE language goes Beta
Home away from home
Home away from home

@Chris
It's probably about as compatible as it's going to get, although I will try to make further improvements if anyone has any requests. But it will never be 100% compatible with the 10 year old AmigaE compiler, because I am more interested in moving the language forwards than backwards!

If you are looking to compile old programs, the main problem with this first Beta is likely to be the lack of support for many of the main OS modules (libraries). But the good news is that I have written a tool to semi-automatically convert C header files into the format needed by PortablE. So if I know which OS modules/libraries you need, then I might have a go at adding support for them.

If you sent me a copy of your program, then I could see what problems there are likely to be, and how easily I could solve them.

@Cool_amigaN

I recognize that. It gets dreadfully slow on higher levels and it doesn?t matter which CPU you run it on, it is as slow anyway. An AmigaOS 4-port that is playable above level 2 would be welcome .
