Re: Alien nations for amiga?

@Antique

Alien Nations for MOS

Titan ported it to MOS, but i doubt that there will be an AmigaOS4
version from them ever...i could be wrong though (also about the rights
status when it comes to who might/want/is allowed to port it)

Yes, that is probably the one. Sad that it doesn't work with Amiga diskettes.

This question goes to the friedens. I read once in an Amigaactive magazine from 2000 that you would port alien nations... Will there be an os4 version? Never seen it for the amiga.. Looks very nice though!

just that you can use SMBFS to read/write an NTFS partition over a network, if you have stuff available for it.

@Niolator:
This mountlist? http://aminet.net/search.php?query=ls_mount

It is for a 120 MB disk.

Size in bytes = BlockSize x BlocksPerTrack x (HighCyl+1)(we count from 0) x Surfaces

EDIT:
It should be possible to create a mountlist to access OFS and FFS formated DD (720 kByte) and HD (1.4 MByte) disks on a classic Amiga.

Install the roms first! SO you'll know that it works properly.. then make a CLEAN install of WB3.1, its safest..

Don't forget the part about 1.x is stable and 2.x is not. I actually ran it a couple of months back and changed back to 1.x as a result of some problems.

What is the difference between 1.x and 2.x versions? What are the advantages or disadvantages between these two editions?

SFS2 supports files > 4 GB, but there are no data recovery tools for it yet, and the format will change again.

Unless you need files > 4 GB you should use SFS 1.x, and since there is next to no AmigaOS software which works with files > 4 GB yet, a lot fails with files >= 2 GB already, SFS2 is currently only interesting for developers:
AFAIK it's the only publically available AmigaOS file system which supports files > 4 GB, with SFS2 developers can test if their large file support works correctly after they have added it to their software.

The only software not part of AmigaOS4 I know of in which large file support was added is lha, as long as the developers don't change their software to work with files > 4 GB the large file support in SFS2, or any other file system, is quite useless

The LS120 CANNOT read or write standard Amiga 880k or 1.6Mb floppies.

But if I am not mistaken it has been done on classic Amigas. There is even a mountlist on Aminet for that purpose. Isn?t there anyone on this forum who have used that mountlist on a classic Amiga? So that we can work out if it is at all possible on any platform I mean.

Thanks for the order- glad it arrived safely.

You can install either ROMs or Workbench first- it doesnt matter. If you have any problems, get in contact.

Different animal!

However, since the "themes" are based on screenshots of the default OS4 theme & the ZAmi theme (also for OS4) -- I think OS4 users are covered.

I don't know as I don't have OS4. The themes include VisualPrefs and Birdie images.

I agree. List of archive contents like on Aminet would be nice to have on OS4Depot too.

I've seen AmiKit of the XPs via WinUAE and wow! But, when you try the same thing on OS4 via Euae, gack! Ah, it's all about that JIT compiler? Any other speedup alternatives around?

Yes, it's about JIT. WinUAE with JIT disabled is also very slow.

Quote:
One speedup that I compared AK to and that AIAB -- AmigaInABox. AIAB is OS3.1 and Scalos 41.3 and whole lot faster than AK. I don't have data at hand to support that, but just appears to me as so! AmiKit will speedup by killing off all of the WBstartups.

Yes, there might be several reasons why AK is slower but the difference is hardly noticable on fast computers:

- AK uses OS3.9 while AIAB uses OS3.1 which might be a bit faster than OS3.9.

- Several years ago, when I tried the WinUAE for the first time on very slow 133Mhz PC, I noticed a considerable speed difference between Workbench and Directory Opus Magellan. Magellan was much slower.

- AK contains several UAE versions of programs. While some of them can work under EUAE, others are especially adjusted for WinUAE and that might cause the slowdowns under EUAE, maybe. I am talking about eg. "winuaeclip" located in WBStartup or math libraries located in LIBS: (together with "PatchMSB" command in startup-sequence, original OS3.9 math libs can be found in "LIBS:NoFPU" drawer.) "LIBS:Picasoo96/rtg.library" is also somehow modified for WinUAE (original library can be found in "LIBS:Picasso96/bak" drawer.) The same for Warp3D libraries...

- AK contains more patches (like TitleShadow, etc.) which could also cause some slowdowns compared to AIAB.

etc.
