Standard 40 or 80 wire one?(are the wires thin and dense or not?)

@all

I have no problem with the HD .. i also tried to watch DVD without DMA enabled but the frame rate isn't good..

I try a lot of DVD and the problem persist..

My DVD is an " XJ-HD166S " i can't see a name.. there is only this code.. it' s a standard dvd-rom for pc.. it's OEM

For the cable, it's a standard ide cable ..

Do you think that is the DVD-ROM ?..

I tried another DVD that was an LG but the amiga didn't recognize it..

They should be flat as well (as pointed by SG couple of times, round cables reduce the shielding ability of the passive wires, they probably look "geek"-ish but appear to be useles, myself was fooled once into buying a pair of these). Just cut the tube that holds them folded if you have the non-flat ones.

NEC drives are very good and has been reported to
work well in AmigaOnes. I have one myself.

What cables do you have?

IIRC Max Tretene (Soft3) said their target price is something like 400? including OS4 which is not bad for a start.

Hmm Has the price changed lately?
Mr Tretene himself posted on AW that the price would
be 450? including OS4 but without VAT.

AW link

This will make the end price even higher than 550?, here
in Sweden anyway with 25% VAT.

Not that I have a problem with this price myself but I know
it will not make a huge success outside our community.

If you don't have problems with your HD (is DMA on?) destroying
files/data while copy operation from/to DVD/CD, than i would'nt
point to the DMA, of course you can always try watching the DVD
with DMA turned off

idetool -x youride.device your_unit_nr 63
e.g.
idetool -x sii0680ide.device 2 63

this sets your DVD to the fastest PIO mode, won't be saved
so at the next start it will be back to DMA), you can set it
back by hand with idetool -x sii0680ide.device 2 66

See if the DVD plays fine, but i doubt it

Wild guess:
Have you tried memtester to see if your mem is faulty?

Another wild guess:
Does it happen with all of your DVD's?
If not DVPlayer may choke on that specific DVD!?

For me, the SAM440-Amiga offers things I have never imagined in my wildest dreams. I cannot envision how fast it must feel to run my current applications on this NG Amiga and browse the world wide web at high-speed.

But I guess any new hardware is better than none.

It will no doubt excite those that have bo OS4 hardware but I am not going rush out to replace my already faster A1 with one

Amiga Micro and DMA [Solved]
Just can't stay away
Just can't stay away

Hi !

I' d like to know if i am the only one that have problems with the DMA and the micro..

It happens when i try to watch a DVD with DVPlayer..

i can watch a movie for about 10/15 minutes and then it freezes.. i have to make an hardware reset from the switch of the case not from the keyboard to reboot my machine..

i have tried different DVD-ROM and i have enabled the DMA ( UDMA 2 ) from the U-Boot options..

I am the only one ( so is my micro that is faulty ) or someone of you had same problem ?..

My config. is micro amiga one 512Mbram and Update 4th..

Thanks

Re: So what should we be compiling for....
Quite a regular

I am currently only compiling for OS4, but then again I only really started doing much coding since having my A-One and OS4.

I did once write some stuff for OS3 in HiSoft BASIC but that is unlikely ever to be finished as HiSoft BASIC and anything written with it refuses to run on OS4.

All my coding has been invoilved with converting OS3 software to OS4, to either fix problems or add features missing in the older versions. So OS3 versions do exist already, just older ones.

I personally think it is time to move on and leave OS3 for dead and concentrate on the future of the Amiga OS rather than compile for every variant and emulation of the OS that exists.

So my main concentration is OS4 only. IF it is possible and not too much effort I may compile for OS3 but not having any OS3 nor Morphos machines to test such a compile on I would not guarantee it working nor be able to give support to any cross compiles. Someone else said similar earlier about the importance of actually having the machines to test your stuff. My A1200 gave up long ago and had not been switched on for ages since OS4 was available on my A One.

Also when porting OS3 to OS4 one thing you can do is remove many of the limitations that the older versions had due to using old hardware and a less featured OS, so why look back

Some work in progress screenshots of my OS4 project can be seen at http://www.eavesweb.plus.com/testpage

Anyone wanting to run DU on 68k can always get version 1.03 which has been available for a long time at http://www.syz.com but don't expect that version to perform anything like the PPC native 1.5 version. That is an old version for old hardware and thus written in a limited way appropriate for the times. Likewise the PPC version expects an 800MHz G4 or similar as base level and 16 or 32 bit screenmodes only. An OS3 compile would probably be a waste of effort for little gain.

Let's look to the future not the past.
