Hey there Sauron, Oohhhh, that's just crazy talk!, ... however, eight unique directions (vert., hor., diags) on two mice = 64 "keys", almost enough to get something going. Mouse click (menu?) selects text case, making 26 movements for whole alphabet. The Street Fighter II champs could go along with that! P.S. A thought. I wonder if two mice could be used simultaneously on AOS4.0, just like that "paired coding" they had, with two programmers using a keyboard on same screen. (Or was that my imagination?)

I personally always hated the integrated keyboard cases, although I do find the A1200 case to be the nicest of those I've seen. I'd much prefer something new though...maybe they could integrate the computer into the mouse? That's about the only peripheral that hasn't been done with yet. :D

Would this fit in the Amiga Fantasy case? What happened to that project? Loooookkk at my (hnl_dk's, okay, okay Marko Hirv's (sp?)) avatar!!! That is, I would say, THE BEST case I've EVER seen! Quite sexy too, with the curves. Very lady like. I think that a most complete, and fast, and quiet (passive cooling), semi-portable (not quite laptop) system it COULD be!!!!! "Keyboard" and mouse (and joystick) would be complete system.... How about that? Remember playing M.U.L.E.? Heh!

You seem to be doing a grand job. Maybe we should try and get you an on-line form set up at some point tied in with the members site ID or something.
Having said that, the system admins/devs are all extremely busy at the moment, maybe a couple of weeks down the line.
Keep going though

I'm working on completing a first draft of the security FAQ to help new and existing users make the best of a bad job with Amiga online and personal security.
It will be split into two parts:
1. How to secure your Amiga against viruses, exploits and monitor for bad software. General things including backups.
2. How to secure your Amiga when using the internet.
The task is pretty big, and I only have AmigaOS3.9 and AmigaOS4.0 to do it with so I need your help.
What virus checkers do you have? How good are they? What filesystems do you run ( PFS? SFS? ) how good is it?
What about TCP/IP? Who out there runs Miami, NetConnect, AmiTCP etc.
Please post some details about your configuration if you are willing to be ask questions, contribute and be given some commands to run:
Please fill out like this so I can put your details in a database:
Hardware: Operating System: Filesystem: TCP/IP stack: Browser(s): Email software: Chat software: Virus software: Do you use PGP with your emails: Extra info/other software used online:
Together we can make Amiga a bit of a safer hobby for all.

I'm not sure that is fair to amiga.org but a few of the more extreme members/moderators with an axe to grind.
But the general air of negativity and intolerance to those who just want to enjoy the hobby without all the politics pervades all the online amiga sites except this one so far.
As long as I have been a lurker online there has been this oppressive atmosphere. From c.s.a.* in the 90s, ANN, Amiga.org in the 2000s etc. The problem isn't the sites it is the people in the community.
But it isn't much different on other platforms if you have ever sat a Linux advocate in the same room as a BSD advocate fur will fly! Arrogance of world view seems to go hand in hand with being a geek.
So what you need is a site with a moderation team firmly but politely keeping out those who just exist for the argument.
I hope amigans.net will achieve this.

X11 kills OS4.0 - help needed

I use vva on OS4 to remote control my unix box that I use for proper secure access to remote sites. This has worked great.
I read recently about a native X11 server for OS4.0 ( Cygnix ) and installed it and ran the X11 server.
It worked OK but for a few small blips:
1. Fonts came up corrupt on Mozilla 2. Fonts came up corrupt on konsole 3. vncviewer came up blank screen
But then it slowed my entire system to a crawl so I had to reboot it. This happenned each time. The only other thing I was running was IBrowse and the slowdown happenned in seconds.
Does anyone know what the problem might be or has experienced a similar error?
I used AmiWinX copied over from my A1200 and that worked just fine ( but slow ) so I know this is nothing hardware related.

I'm not worried about Sam's lack of power, honestly. I know most everyone here wants to see a new Amiga running the latest and greatest, but I think it kind of misses the point by expecting that. AOS can run great on lower end hardware, and seeing a lower end board running it at full speed will go a long ways in pronouncing this fact...although not as much as running it on a PDA, but I digress. This board definitely would provide a good foundation for future hardware, with the added benefit of being a little more affordable for those of us who can't spend $1,000US+ on hobbyist hardware. Let it sit out there for a bit, and maybe the economies of scale will allow for more powerful hardware to come out at a reasonable price.

Yeah, I'd like to see it so I could afford to run AmigaOS4.
Family comes before spending hundreds and hundreds on my hobby.
So for now it's AmigaOS3.9.

Yeah, keep in mind that OS4 hasn't actually been officially released yet, the current official AmigaOS version is OS3.9. So that needs to still be fully supported. Also keep in mind that total AmigaOne production ever is in the range of a few thousand, and with no AmigaOne emulator available, this means that the OS4 userbase is likewise restricted to a few thousand, which cannot possibly increase since the machines which can run it have all been discontinued.
Whereas over 8 million classic Amigas have been sold, and anyone with a modern IBM-PC is able to run UAE, which means a potential userbase of hundreds of millions.
Not a very difficult decision if you ask me.

That is all Amiga.org has been for the last 4 years; people slagging off anything and everything positive in OS4 scene. I'm just glad I have a place to enjoy my hobby again. =)

I sometimes run just Workbench 1.3, but I really only do it to play with the SAY program. I think the 1.3 Speech sounds a little different then the last version on 2.04 Workbench. 2.04 is better quality I think, but the one on 1.3 is the one I remeber playing with when I was younger. Making it say bad words is sooo much fun
