@Hondo Welcome. No, this site will not go "off the rails" as you put it, because unlike other sites out there, the people behind this site are commited AmigaOS4 users. We use it every day, we know the software and the hardware, we know its limitations and we know its strengths. Above all though, we are not an amiga inc worshipping site. All we care about is AmigaOS4, whilst still looking back to the past for Classic and Emulation users. (Heck I use E-UAE)

Hondo says YO!!
This is really really good news......what i've wanted for a long time now. A new site with OS4 only stuff. It's just sad that AW didn't see it coming, because I once had that same kind of joy because of AW.net (when A.org exploded)
Anyway I surely hope this site (amigans.net....hmmmmmmm dunno if i like it) never ever will drive off the road like the two others did.
WAY TO GO DUDES!!!!!!!
now get working on the colours, smileys, topbanner, etc, and make this site even more beautiful than AW, and oh make sure everything is easy to read.
GO GOGOGOGOOGOG

@abalaban
Thank you, thank you, thank you! I've been trying to understand why the stream-amplifier arexx-script from OS4depot had stopped working. When called from IBrowse it made a copy of the IBrowse folder in a new folder named .pls in the IBrowse directory. I replaced RX with the one from pre3, and hey presto, it worked again!

From Dec. 1st it's 5 days now of operation.
232 / 5 = 46.4 new members per day.
So, that would mean that we will have 1,000 just before Christmas!!!
Wooohoooo!
( /speculation Current upper limit possible ~1700 /speculation)

The releasing of AOS4.0 IS a milestone in the history of computing.
Essentially, a 21 year old computer operating system (with complimentary HW, ALSO ahead of it's time) that was ahead of it's time and was abandoned, and left for dead has come back, not AS GOOD AS any currently availble OS, but BETTER, because it's sleek and flexible, and offers features that todays OSs DO NOT HAVE out of the box!
We are waiting for the superior OS's return!
Be among the few, the proud, there to witness it!!!
All behind AOS4.x and anyone that is coding applications for it should be honored to be a part of this!!! They are standing on the shoulders of other very, very great people*.
Quick, I need bananas!!
* Again, those programmers of the past in addition to the ones that programmed AOS0.x through 3.9.

I'll agree with Raziel and say "Battle for Wesnoth". Since that's about the only game I play regularly on OS4. It's a great game especially considering it was started as an opensource project and is still being improved on.
I also like Ur-Quan Masters but I haven't played it for some time since it's quite hard and I'm so bad at the space fights, not to mention lack of time.

This page has dates for all of the pre-release updates of OS4: http://www.gregdonner.org/workbench/wb_40.htmlAs others have mentioned the non-availability of hardware is the only factor preventing release. If I remember rightly Hyperion stated around the time of Update 4 that if hardware was available this would have been the final release. Since then they have fixed more bugs and added more features, judging by some of the reports available from beta testers and shows, so the final release will include stuff not currently available to users of Update 4. Hyperion at one point said that they hoped to have a final version ready for release by the end of the year, although there have been no public hardware developments that would make this possible. (It is, of course, impossible to rule out any non-public developments that we aren't aware of) More recently developers from Hyperion have hinted at some kind of announcement happening this month, so there may be further news soon.

One small issue I found while registering - once I activated my account, I tried to login on the page I was redirected to. It did log me in, but I was then taken to the activation page which told me I was already activated, and then redirected to itself.

@Amigame Quote: want to see new Amiga HW to get more people on board the AOS4 boat ! Personally I'm more interrested in a high-end board (Panda ?) to maybe "replace" my A1XE (Though I won't let that one go !...). I'm with you here, sooner or later i'd too like to get a newer board to replace my A1XE, but stating from the pictures i've seen, Panda is a Micro board too, isn't it? Picture of Panda by TroikaNGDon't want to drag this thread off-topic, sorry

@RomanceClip Quote: I hope the announcements that the OS4 port is ready and the license from Amiga Inc all happen on the same day they announce shipping schedules. Personally, I'd rather they skipped any and all public announcements entirely and just ship the product. The "announcement" should be the product is now available for sale from our online store and is shipping immediately. That said, the SAM440EP would make a fine Amiga computer. Not the most powerful in the world but with that FPGA and all those I/O options it should be a hacker's dream come true.

Not just fun. I followed a link to their manufacturing World Wide Web site in Italy - it looks like a very professional outfit. I hope the announcements that the OS4 port is ready and the license from Amiga Inc all happen on the same day they announce shipping schedules. Let's hope it's soon!

@Billsey The story is long and the end result is we don't have any new Amiga computers to sell you. That is the sad truth.
While we have been waiting for new hardware products to be developed, AmigaOS 4.0 itself has been progressing. As a beta tester I know updates have been continuously appearing since the last update (#4) was released way back at the start of the year.
I also know of several hardware projects on the go. There have been some public OS4 hardware projects announced and being worked on by ACK Software Controls, Troika NG and Trio. To the best of my knowledge, none of these projects have demonstrated OS4 running on their respective hardware to the general public to date so it is very difficult for the public to judge how far along any of them actually are. Needless to say, the armchair critics are having a field day.
In the mean time, I'm using my Eyetech supplied Amiga computers (AmigaOne-XE, MicroA1-C) to keep busy. I haven't fired up my Amiga 3000 in a very long time now.
