Can't Remember How To Get Online
Just popping in
Just popping in

Hi all,

I recently dug out my Sam440ep and hooked it up to my nice new 49" TV in the living room.

Since having it up and running last time we have changed our service provider and I am unable to get it online.

Can anyone assist?

@1mouse

1)Launch SYS:Prefs/Internet and check your interface settings, maybe it's using static IP/data, change to use DHCP and see what happens after reboot.

2)Or do you get some sort of error/warning message on Workbench start/load?

3)Just check what do you have in "DEVS:NetInterfaces/"

I have eth0 file with following settigns (it's a plain text file)

# DEVS:NetInterfaces/eth0
# File generated by Internet 53.2 (27.9.2009)
# On Viernes, 28-Dic-12 at 17:28:10
device=ppc460ex_eth.device
hardwaretype=Ethernet
address=192.168.1.204
netmask=255.255.255.0

I think that os 4.1 has a "wizard" that sets up inet for you...

@1mouse:

Also remember that you have to use the ethernet port closest to the corner, the other one is not functional under OS4.

Best regards,

Hi 1mouse,

If you open a shell and type ShowNetStatus, what does it
show you?

If you're using ethernet, in SYS:Devs/NetInterfaces/ you
should have a text file with a name that matches the name
of the "interface" shown in your Internet prefs.

Usually, having DHCP turned on (checked) in Internet prefs
is a good way to start.

The interface file for a DHCP ethernet connection on a
SAM440 should have contents similar to within these lines:

---------------------------------------------
# DEVS:NetInterfaces/ASAether
# File generated by Internet 53.3 (1.8.2011)
# On Tuesday, 28-Oct-14 at 10:55:29
device=ppc440ep_eth.device
hardwaretype=Ethernet
configure=dhcp
mtu=0
---------------------------------------------

If you're using a wifi card, then there are a few other
things you'll need to do.

Finally, are you sure your hardware is good... Good
cable? (tried it in something else?) Good router port?
(tried something else in that port?) etc etc

Good luck,

PJS
