Wish we had something like apitrace
Home away from home

While I was working on the MiniGL update and the Southern ISlands Warp3D driver, I found myself wishing for a tool like apitrace. I've lost count of how many times I thought "if only I had something that could isolate the exact render operations that are misbehaving." A tool like that would have cut down on the time needed to track down various problems. I imagine that something like this would help with developing or porting apps/games too.

I hadn't heard of apitrace before, but it's more or less exactly what I wished that I had.

So, if any developer is looking for a new porting project...
HINT: With MiniGL you could intercept the API calls by patching the library.

@Hans

If I understand correctly it's something like Snoopy but for OpenGL calls instead of Exec/DOS calls?

Sort of, but there's more to it. What's different is that you can also replay the API calls step by step. It's that ability that I'm particularly interested in, as I could effectively step through rendering a frame in blocks, until I hit whichever render calls aren't doing what they should.
