newlib's tmpfile

Is tmpfile() supposed to work correctly in newlib ? tmpfile() is supposed to create and open a temporary file that will be erased on close but the file seems to stay present is RAM.
Can someone else confirm this ?

EDIT: the consequence is that T: is slowly filling with temporary files that should have been deleted...
