Hi all,

Did anyone manage to port findutils?

TIA,
Jack

GNU Findutils

Quote:

Findutils
The GNU Find Utilities are the basic directory searching utilities of the GNU operating system. These programs are typically used in conjunction with other programs to provide modular and powerful directory search and file locating capabilities to other commands.

The tools supplied with this package are:
find - search for files in a directory hierarchy
locate - list files in databases that match a pattern
updatedb - update a file name database
xargs - build and execute command lines from standard input

So something like "find" and "search" on Amiga.
I'm guessing its a bit faster if you use the database-things.

I have ported "find".

It hasn't been tested much, but it seems to do the basic tasks OK. I just took the old GeekGadgets source file, and whatever it choked on during compilation, I stripped out :) ("fork" and "wait" stuff). It's a miracle it works with that code removed.

I don't have plans to update it to OS4Depot yet, simply because it's a rush & hack job and I don't know any C.

If someone wants it, just let me know.

What?! It says GNU Operating System on the title page. Do I really need Unix ports of system stuff for Amiga OS4 which is not Unix. Hey, what 's goin'on?

So something like "find" and "search" on Amiga.
'FindMore' works nice

@Snuffy

You need the GNU "find" in order to port some things much more easily. Like Neverball.

Some libs, like libtiff, use "find" if you have it. If you don't have it, you need to merge libport.a and libtiff.a together (if you're compiling using clib2, there's a function missing and it creates a libport.a).

Unfortunately the Makefiles don't really tell you that Find is missing, it just conks out, or continues on and looks like everything has completed fine.
