OS4.1 intellifont, and other things from 3.x

I've been scanning through smoe of the 4.1 files

1) I'm not seeing _bullet or _bullet_outline in 4.1. Are fonts like CGTimes really TrueType in 4.1 and hence are not intellifont...

TVPaint was looking for _bullet_outline and I couldn't change it to _TrueType

2) Also noticed HDBackup.help...looks like this was leftover from 3.x -- no hdbackup tool but there is bru...has anybody gotten bru to work on the SAM?

3) What does SP_Engine do in System dir and also the Profiles dir?

1) looking at the .otag files, they are just mappings to the DejaVu TrueType fonts.

In 4.0 you needed to copy _bullet from a 3.x install into fonts: to allow the use of old bullet outline fonts (yes, and _bullet_outlines of course). I suspect that is still the case.

I have it in mine but I think it is copied from an older hard drive. When I install Amiga OS I add comments to all the files saying "Amiga OS4.x" etc. and this doesn't have that so it will be copied from elsewhere. So yes, you can still use outline fonts if you copy over the files.

The original three Intellifonts which came with earlier releases of AmigaOS, were licensed from Agfa. I would guess that this license has not been renegotiated for OS4, so the otag files were just made to point to suitable TrueType/FreeType replacements. But as mentioned by others, there should be no problems using "real" Intellifonts if you absolutely must (except for the lower quality), by copying over the needed files.

As far as I know, nothing changed in this between 4.0 and 4.1.

Best regards,

Niels

2) I was trying to see if I could use bru with my dvd+rw....but looks like the dvd+rw is shown as read-only. Not sure why that is -- both DOS (info) and Workbench information shows it is write-protected. AmiDVD is okay and is able to write to it...

So I can't format it with the 4.1 tools either...this wasn't a "brand new" disk.
