DVplayer 0.72 or the DVD drive (pause problem)
Quite a regular
Quite a regular

See User information
Hello,

When I launch a DVD movie with DVplayer 0.72 (AOS4.1.1 version), all is fine. BTW, I think movie is much smoother with AOS4.1.1 and DVplayer OEM 4.1.1 (but for sure not completely smooth).

First, DVD drive itself launch (make noise) and less noise and the movie start.

The problem is sometime the DVD stop reading and the movie stop and the DVD restart by itself with noise and so on.

The problem arrive maybe one time each 15-20 minuts.

- Could you arrive to see a complete DVD without pauses like that ??? (pause when loading the 1go files are normal

- The problem could arrive because just some wrong settings on the dosdrivers (for long readings) ???

BTW, there are no CD0: dosdrivers on devs/dosdrivers ?????
Where are the settings for CD0.

NOTE: hum, when using forward and pause, I have immediately grim reaper with DVplayer 0.72 aos4.1.1 OEM version.

CD0: is mounted automatically by the system, no dosdriver is required.

At the beginning, i wasn't able to see any movies with my sam and the panasonic dvd-reader in my psile case.. even with the decss decrip available on os4depot.net.. then i discover, thanks to this program, that my dvd has no region set.. maybe you have a similar problem.. ??

check this program:

http://www.os4depot.net/index.php?fun ... ver/storage/regionset.lha

Then check if you have dma enable on your sam

HUM ?? I have GOOG and G00G...

@rigo

Would like to know if there are parameters like on the AOS3.x for the CD0 and if buffers, delay,... exist.

@nubechecorre

The movies allways work fine but the DVD drive seemed to forgot to continue around each 15-20 minuts. the movie freeze and DVD drive suddenly restart and the movie is OK again.

Playing actually with dvplayer AOS4.1.1 eom the caraibean pirates3.

CPU from 65% to 95% and rarely 100% that mean the movie is smooth but the sound is 1C0 (MPG).

movie at 65% CPU when slow move and 95% when speed move (and rarely 100%).

It's finally possible to play DVD movie smooth but with minimal sound. As often, sound is 3+1 or 5+1 channel, DVD playback become not smooth on SAM667EP.

this movie movie informations:

MPEG 720x480 29,97 fps.
audio 1C0 (mpg) 16 bit 48000hz, stereo.

DVplayer maybe need a original movie sound to stereo sound converter .........

Strangely with this movie I haven't slow period each 15 minuts (approximately) ????

Maybe the lack of CPU with other movies I have tried untill now push the DVD drive to sometime do strange things ???

Now, I continue to see the movie

Unfortunately I can't watch DVD smoothly. If I copy the file on the HD it plays without stuttering but not from the DVD.
My DVD max transfer rate is 69 my HD has 70 (G00F). Looks like those 33MiB/sec are big difference.

Can anyone confirm this?

edit: is there a speed improvement setting the region code? My DVD is set to RG=none.
Since I'm mostly playing selfmade DVDs put together from holiday clips and such, I see non reason to set the Drive. Am I wrong?

GOOG here and not smooth (mainly when speed move on the movie).

The region code not change something about speed (be carefull, limited attempt to set the region code on dvd drive).

I think improvements are missing on DVDPlayer and/or additionnal libraries (video or sound) because sometime a DVD seemed to have better speed than another one (and theorically DVD have same resolutions (I said 2 DVD with 16:9 format, for example).

Not sure if this has been mentioned yet. The decss plugin doesn't read from the drive as efficiently as the official dvd plugin. It seems to read in smaller chunks and there doesn't seem to be any buffer what so ever. This results in stutters, making any movie completely unwatchable on my system/drive.

Using DVplayer with its own supplied dvd plugin works fine, however it is unable to read protected DVDs.

Hrmm.

then it's the same here..
but it's strange the same .vob file plays smoothly without stuttering when read from the harddrive.

Do you know if there is some "on the fly" decoding occuring when reading from DVD which causes slowdown? Improbable since the CPU usage is approx at 50% during playback.

Again this is no commercial DVD,
I made it by myself with iDVD/iMovie so there is no encryption.

Oh and the DVD has 800 buffers (added 200 with addbuffers from the shell)

I have made tests with DVD medias on the DVD drive or with one of the media file on the HD (with big buffers) and with dvdvcd from dvplayer or from AOS4depot and I can't seen real differences of speed playback.

Small differences seen with the last DVplayer (from AOS4.1U1). Some % CPU gain. Too bad not the registered version availabe for registered users

The movie seen have 29.97 fps. DVDPlayer should fix the value at 24 fps (for movies) for gaining CPU power on SAM computer, IMHO.

SCout said me that the CD0 default buffers is 500 (small value) -250ko- and if I add buffers with addbuffers, scout allways said 500... I think add CD0 buffers on SS is a good idea.

Amigo, you have 600 buffers per default on your system ??? (I have 500 here).
