It wasn't a one-man-project from the begining. The news items at ANN, where I first read it, said that they where... I think four guys... that had worked with webbtechnology in one way or the other. So they where to write this new browser in one year. That didn't happen as we all know and everyone that read the subject where very suspicious. However, it seems to be true for once and I was suspicious also and had this good feeling about it and was right about it too ...

Anyway... the question is, is it just one man working on it and why did the others leave?

I'm waiting for this browser too since it's very interesting and promising...

I hope that he will give a more clear answer to this than what I write from my not so clear memory ...

I think it's just Smithy working on it now think he's been alone on it for a long time though. Would like an update too!

Paihia might suprise me some day but I think an updated IBrowse and/or Sputnik ( http://www.ppa.pl/khtml/index_en.php ) will be our best bet for a modern OS4 browser.

The latest IBrowse update was great but still lacks features in certain areas. Sputnik is also exiting to follow and allready works on Morphos and have features Ibrowse doesn't.

I could be wrong but I got the impression that the author of Paihia was not interested in doing an OS4.0 version atm?

I talked to Smithy at BB4 and he seemed revitalised.

I really hope he hasn't lost interest

Even if Smithy isn't interested in doing an OS4 version he might let others do it at some point? It will be interesting to see when it is finished.

I hope 2007 will be the year OS4 will finally see some up-to date browsers.

Paihia, written from scratch.
Sputnik, based on KHTML, basic version available on MOS.
IBrowse 3, written from scratch or? when?
Aweb, Going the KHTML route? any development done?
Firefox, doubt we will ever see that

Hi chaps,

Hello from the rainforest of northern Queensland! Not done any Paihia work for the last month or so cos I'm on holiday. Due back shortly though when I hope to make some serious inroads. And it's now a one-man project too!

The Paihia engine doesn't use either. It has its own graphics API. The browser provides a graphics layer to the web engine that implements this API. This is what makes Paihia very portable. The current test client uses Java2D for graphics on Windows. The Amiga client will use MUI (what else?!).

Is it going to be possible for other people to make browsers using the Paihia back end?
