It was a long time since I heard anything about this project, does anyone know anything about the current status?

Last time I checked (Feb 2007), not much progress had been made for a while. Peter Werno hadn't had much time to work on it.

To be honest, this really isn't a one man job. Unfortunately all the developers we have for the Amiga are stretched quite thinly. I certainly don't have any time to contribute to JAmiga. It's a pity too, because we've lacked Java support for a really long time now.

Last time i spoke to him was when his forum broke (Nov 2006)

Absolutely nothing heard since then...i do hope that he will
keep on...and i mention his project everytime i can.

I'm with you here, too. I don't even think a Bounty like with
Sputnik would help, one man ain't enough for this task...

edit: Sent him a mail, amybe he'll join us here and tells what
he might need?

My first post.

I know Jamiga is something completely different but if we are so concerned about Java compatability would it not be wiser to port the Java virtual machine.
Sun has just open sourced it haven't they?

Ok. Going back to my happy place now.

There was someone porting CACAO. However, the problem is not so much the JVM, but the native interface to the Java class library. For example, we've had a Kaffe port for years, but without working AWT/SWING toolkits, it's pretty much useless.

I think it's ridiculous how many Amiga Java projects have been started and then crushed over the years. There was Merapi, which was canned because Sun was being a pain with licensing. Kaffe never got AWT/SWING working. KOFFIE looked promising but disappeared. There was also one called Moca at some point. No idea how far that one got.

JAmiga has partially working AWT support so far. I really hope that this project does move forward.
