OS4 crash while trying to install X11 (cygnix) (DIS error)
Just popping in

When I launch the install files of X11, I get thru the part where one can chose novice user etc. When I go further and select where I want to install it seem to give me a grim reaper stating:

Guru Meditation: 80000003
Task 0xca78e10 ("installer")
generated an error of type DSI (Data storage interrupt)
on address 0x012155ac
Redzone was not damaged
Stackpointer is inside bounds.

Using final OS4 on a micro A1.

Anyone have any idea what may cause this ?

regards

Then I suggest trying to increases stack for the installer and run Snoopy to check what fails or if some thing fails,

Remember to reboot after the instillation of Cygnix X11R6 pre-release 3 and ABIWord.

(Anyway did you try to ignore the error?)

I tried having a bigger stack, didn't seem to help.

Not quite sure what I should look for in Snoopy, there is a few "FAIL" regarding

Some examples:

FAIL = Lock("Envarc:Reaper.68kstacktrace",SHARED)

then sim "o.k"

Then ends with a few FAIL's:

Fail = Open("Progdir:", shared)
Fail = Open("Progdir:Catalogs/...........")
Fail = Open("Locale:catalogs/..............")

And finaly:

Fail = Lock("Envarc:classes/datatypes", SHARED).

No idea what's going on....

PS: It seem to happen at the time the installer is going to show the available drives, before I chose one...

Problem is that don?t know if they should fail or not, I?m not close to my Amiga right now.

But you should at least check if directories listed are to be found some where else, maybe they where moved by accident or some thing.

Maybe you have more then one installer in your system, or the PPC native version is some how replaced, I suggest.

Checking paths and Assigns in AmigaDOS

Type

PATH

And then type:

Assign

The find tool in Workbench tools menu is where nice to find "installers" (files) on your disk too.

Or you can specify a direct path in icons tool type to the correct installer.

I figures it out, though not sure why, but when executing the installer from shell it worked.

Also did a "assign progdir:" to the directory of cygnix before I executed the installer from shell.

If that has anything to do with it or not I'm not sure.

After this the "update" worked from the icon-installer.

Progdir: volume is always the directory that program is started from, and you should never need to assign it to anything, Maybe it where already assigned manual by accident to some thing wrong?

Most likely you have tow installers in your system, one old 68k version, and one PPC native installer, I don?t know way it worked for you when using shell.

yea I know about progdir: and it wasn't assigned before, doubt it had anything to do with that before executing the installer.

No idea why it worked, but it did, and X is now working. Though Abiword won't start it seem....:(
