OS4 and cdrom trouble...

Hi guys,

I wanted to install os4 final and it has presented some trouble.
First I downloaded the ISO and burn it on my mac. Then I tried
to boot the cdrom on my AmigaONE and it kept complaining that
an SLD file or something was missing.

I booted to the workbench and the cdrom doesn't show up there either.
In fact no cd or dvd is showing up on Workbench. If I try the format program in workbench
it tells me that the cd capacity is 19mb...

Also, it can't find devs:mountlist...

Where do I start?

I have the same problem with my DVD/CDRW-Combo-Drive. It seems not to be recognised under UBOOT.

I will try to get another CDROM for testing tomorow.

It's really strange because it used to work...

Hmm... Let me know what you discover. It could be that my drive is simply not working anymore.

But hopefully someone will have a solution.

I had to swap my CD-Writer for a different CD-ROM before I could get the OS4 disc to be recognised. The strangest thing was that the original drive then refused to recognise any CDs at all. Don't know whether this was an OS4 Final problem or one that I'd had for a while as the last time I used a CD was probably wheni updated to update 4.

I had some problems too. Try to burn it again.

I used a CD-RW disk, so it can be erased and burned again..

Tomorrow I will get a CDROM drive back from a friend. Then I will do a test.

Another thing to try: use a CD-R disk instead of a CD-RW. The cost is negligible.

Same problem here with an NEC ND-3550a DVD burner. I tried a cd-rw & cd-r, but neither would boot. The cd did show on the WB & I was able to run the installer. I have a bootable ud3 cd that I tried & it did boot just fine. Final cd kept saying 'no slb found', like others have reported.

Could be a DVD drive problem because MakeCD locks up after burning the iso even though it does burn ok.

Oh, I did use a cd-r as I understand people have been having trouble with cd-rw...

I guess I have to try putting a different cd-rom drive in my Amiga... It doesn't recognise any discs anymore so something is wrong.

Waiting to see if it'll solve Mason's problem first.

I downloaded and burnt the iso on FryingPan. When I
inserted it into my DVD-RW it failed. When I inserted it into my
DV-CDRW drive it worked after 2 attempts.

Many modern DVD players have problems reading normal CDR-RW
the lasers are simply too powerful.

When using a CD-RW, make sure it's erased correctly.

installs ok from a sony dvdrw burner (CD-R disc)

Set your CDROM / CDR to best pia mode using UBOOT prefs then try again, do not use CDRW discs when installing OS4.

Same problems here: my registered Frying Pan .041 burns the iso on a regular CD-R, but the new disk refuses to boot. I comapared the boot sector with update#4 -- it's been changed. I believe FP can't handle
the new changes.
I noticed a lot of references to "MakeCDFS 45.12".
Never heard of it.
Changing drives does nothing: I have a Sony, LiteON,
and AOpen and they all fail.

Solutions please?

It's called PIO, and it's found under the "IDE Ports" tab in U-Boot prefs. Just change the transfer mode of the unit your drive is attached to.

IIRC you have to explicitly set this to a UDMA mode or the a1ide.device will default to PIO so unless you've changed the setting it should default to the best PIO mode available.

Same problem, I just changed my burner from UDMA 2 to UDMA 1 & my final cd booted for the first time for me. try playing with the DMA setting.

Sorry for the delay, but I didn't get my CDROM drive yesterday. But I hope to get it today!

MeanwhileI have prepared my m1A for the 'operation': Opened the desktop, found an additional tower cable.

Just the drive is missing

I can't find these IDE ports in UBOOT prefs at all...
