cardpatch and cardreset neededd in OS4.0 classic?
Just popping in

hello again
when I had OS3.9 on my A1200, I used cardpatch and card reset in my user-startup to correct any PCMCIA problem.
then my 3COM lan card worked OK.
do i need to install them even on OS4.0 classic, or the PCMCIA bugs are already corrected by the OS?
Thanx

Seems they are not needed any more

card.resource
..
- Added workaround for the A1200 PCMCIA hardware reset bug (software
patches or hardware hacks no longer required for ethernet cards, etc).
..

Try without/with such patches and post results here

Do you mean it doesn't work on your system without applying cardpatch and cardreset?

Or if you must use cardpatch and cardreset to make your card work OK?

I mean, does anybody know whether they shold still be used, if no hardware hack is fitted, or OS4 has them built in?
I have this 3COM PCMCIA LAN card. If I cold boot with the card inserted, A1200 will stop the booting, If I boot with the card not inserted, it is OK, then I insert the card, warm reset and it's OK.
could also be a problem of my A1200, which is rev 1a, some sort of incompatibility.

He aleady answered you but perhaps he assumed you would know about the lines in the kicklayout file in the Sys:Kickstart directory...

just edit this file and remove the comment infront of this option...

then I suppose it is now built in to OS4 as you put it

Yes, the card hack software is now builtin to OS4, but you have to remember that a cold booting classic machine is not running OS4.0 ;)

Yes, CardReset certainly isn't required on OS4 and the workaround in card.resource has a wider scope than CardReset - i.e. everytime a card reset is necessary, the workaround is employed so that the reset always happens.

CardPatch on the other hand might still have a use on OS4, depending on the card, I guess. The bits that cover card reset problems are already covered by the above workaround, so are unnecessary on OS4. The ReleaseCard() patch is unnecessary also, since the card.resource code was fixed. It's just the "Slow bug" and interrupt server changes in CardPatch that were never directly put into card.resource. Mainly because while I was fixing card.resource so that it actually worked at all with OS4, I could not reproduce any of the problems mentioned (partly because getting access the PCMCIA slot in my A1200T is a major problem ), and neither could any of the beta testers - so I didn't change anything that I could not understand, test or verify.

So, definitely do not use CardReset on OS4, and don't try CardPatch unless you encounter problems.
