If you'd like some help with Japanese support, I'd be happy to do whatever I can. Have you tried the current classic solutions on OS4? I set them up on my A1, but it caused some show-stopping problems with IBrowse and now the Locale prefs editor always GRs when it first starts up.

Yes they're all useless on os4 imho.. jkff, jiwa, kezako ..all os4 changed the font system. But, if you can get something up and working i'm strongly interested :) it's not because i couldn't made these apps work on os4 that nobody can.. beside jkff is opensource ..
thanks for your offer to help. i don't know yet if they will say "ok. i'm waiting for their answer.
but if you can speak and write japanese, we could share the work, no problem. that's kind of you to propose ^^
i'll ask my gf (depending on her time) to help too, the more the merrier ;) so it could get done asap.
for just the wb, menu , prefs, os4 installer and general interface, i think i could get everything done in just few days.
after, the docs would take longer.. lots of text in there..
I have NO idea whats required for Japanese support in the OS or the apps, but if you want to do a Japanese locale translation for IBrowse aswell, drop me a line and we'll sort it out.
I would assume that as long as the OS supports whatever is required, that it will just be a matter of translating and creating the catalog, but I'm a total novice when it comes to all that as everything I use is in english anyway
that the first thing we'll need is a charset. I wrote a kana charset for my VIC-20 and then C64, though I suppose one for the Amiga will be very different. I'd be happy to look into what's needed for an Amiga charset if you'd like.

Yes please do so! Everything that could help is welcome. If you need me to do something just ask. i'm on irc all the time.
thanks

edit:
@Vailiant: TetiSoft seems to say some work have to be done, for which i currently have no knowledge.. working on unicode and implementing the whole support. i thought this would be done by hyperion themselve. i just offered to do the translation.
i will still try to look at all the hint he gave us, but i have no special knowledge in this area. i just know Japanese and the way it works. if you have any question about how japanese language works, about phonetic system (kana) and their translation into kanji (japanese symbols) i can help anytime.
some years ago, i helped a friend to build a japanese input method on morphos, just like this, explaining how the language actualy works.. he could made a working program to input japanese on morphos. (btw morphos used jkff to be able to display japanese) but jkff don't seems to work on os4.
btw, if someone have the knowlege and the interest into looking at building unicode , charset, whatever japanese support on OS4, maybe this link could help?
just a short update to say: os4 can actualy display japanese. here, i typed this text myself on my pc, saved as utf8 (unicode) exported the file on the miggy, and it showed perfectly well. everything is there, it's full japanese display support.
the text reads: AmigaOS4 can display Japanese text!
all i did was loading a ttf font into typemanager, and have typemanager to open a file as a sample test.
so one coul even save html page in japanese or whatever text in unicode and view it on os4 through typemanager :) all done by os4 itself, with no patch at all :)
hi Olfa, nice to see you around :) would it be possible for you to port JKFF to os4 ?
Tetisoft is one of the key developper that work on os4 localization. If you need help to port JKFF on OS4 he is the person in charge. Tetisoft seems to have very good knowledge about amiga 68k and ppc. Could try to speak with Tetisoft to get JKFF on os4 please ? it would be very nice ..
Tetisoft could you please help Olfa to port JKFF on OS4? He came on his own, i didn't asked him anything. He's not part of our discussion. he's a real survivor Japanese Amigan :) one of the last i guess ..
If you can't help him, could you please tell Olfa who to contact ?
Thanks ..
edit: seeing Olfa is still interested in amiga, i just mailed him. i offered to lend him my amigaone for a while if he need it.
if we could get a port of jkff that would be just great ..
Tetisoft could you please help Olfa to port JKFF on OS4?
Well, I can try. Basically porting an 68k AmigaOS system patch to OS4 requires the ability to build PPC binaries with the OS4 SDK. The first thing to do is to "port" the sourcecode from SAS/C to gcc. The second is to "port" the sourcecode from gcc/68k to gcc/PPC. This includes using OS4 interfaces instead of OS3 library bases. This is explained in
The third and important step is to add a SetMethod() call everywhere where a SetFunction() call exists, because SetFunction() only affects function calls done from inside 68k programs. The fourth step is to replace the old 68k replacement functions with 68k stubs which call the new PPC functions. FDTrans (part of the SDK) can be used to create such stubs.
At this point the program should either work, at least a bit, or crash. When it crashes, debug binaries linked with -g and GrimReaper logs should help to find the problem. When it works, there should be made some adjustments to the new OS4 functions, e.g. antialiasing, usage of truetype fonts, support for UTF-8 catalogs etc.
thanks for this. i'll try to see if i can help by lending him my amigaone for a while, if he need it. maybe i could help translating information between you and him too.i just mailed him now, i'm waiting for an answer, and i'll see if i can do something.
I can't read japanese part of #16. Because AWebII(m68k) handle only single byte, it can't handle double byte (example "さ"). I drew up plan of port JKFF. --Today-- JKFF(OS3.9/m68k) 1. Patch font table 2. Patch to function Text 3. Insert input handler (input.device) 4. Handle code SJIS/EUC/JIS JKFFDisp(OS3.9/m68k) 1. One of commodities 2. Patch to font table 3. Ptach to function Text 4. Handle code SJIS/EUC/JIS/UTF --Step1-- Create JKFFInput(OS3.9/m68k)(SAS/C) 1. One of commodities 2. Insert CxObject (commodities network) 3. Handle code UTF 4. (Not patch to font table) 5. (Not patch to function Text) --Step2-- Port JKFFInput(OS4/PPC)(gcc) (I wish "Same source code, each compile".) --Goal-- OS3.9 JKFFDisp/JKFFInput(m68k) OS4 JKFFInput(PPC)
I will start "Step1". Long long ago, I bought "Amiga SDK for Linux" CD. I can use it for develop Step2?
