Can anyone recommend a good archiver GUI for OS 4.1? I need to make zip archives of photos. Have installed zip (latest from OS4depot) into C: and currently experimenting with Cranu. Find that files in the .zips made by Cranu are read protected. Anyone know where I might be going wrong or suggest an alternative archiver? Thanks.

Solution is to use the 68k version. I think this is the latest:

@Chris Did wonder if it might be down to zip rather than Cranu, 68k version works fine as you said. Shame about the bug in the OS4 version.

@AmigaPapst @gurus2000 Will definately try AmiArc out, looks good from website, shame it's not on OS4depot as probably would have found it straight away then. Thanks for the tips.

@xeron Going to stick with Cranu as it is working everytime since installing 68k Zip. I struggling to do anything useful with AmiArc, like the idea of a docky you can just drop files on to pack but doesn't seem to be working here.

@Daniel If you put Cranu in the Dock, you should be able to drag icons to the Cranu icon. I *think* thats the case, but i can't remember 100%. It should definately work if you drag icons the Cranu icon in workbench. Edit: Ahh, I just tried dragging files to the Cranu icon in AmiDock, and it launched a seperate instance of Cranu for each file! Strange.

@Mrodfr Hmm.. you could create a multi-rar profile for Cranu right now...

Strange.Works fine if you drop a drawer on, but as you say if you select a bunch of files in a drawer and drop on it opens a new instance for every file.
AmiArc seems to be working for me now, but it's docky icon only seems to handle drawers, doesn't do anything when given a selection of files.

@Daniel Another option is the old and reliable 68k program peperoni from aminet, works fine on os4. it just gives two positionable appicons on workbench, one for packing, one for unpacking. One thing peperoni does that cranu doesn't (yet) is include the drawer itself if you drop one on the gui, just it's contents are added. Edit: typos <sigh>

@Severin In cranu: * Drop drawer on Cranu (or its icon) * Hit the "<" button to tell it you want the archive the files from one level higher

@xeron yep, I've been using that (when I remember). but it still doesn't include the drawers icon if it has one.

@Severin Hmm.. maybe i should change the default action of Cranu such that if you drag a drawer on it, and the drawer has an associated icon, it'll default to including the icon in the archive.

@xeron That would be useful, but would this result in a folder if unpacked on Windows?

@xeron I think it would make sense. If a drawer of photos went in as a drawer seems logical it should unpack as a drawer of files from the archive to, rather than just the files. Would be useful in that it would save creating/naming new folder for photos after unpacking.
