Ok, i will give it another go and hopefully this time we can get something done. I want to create a Beginners package with programs that a new user would like to have in an easy way instead of searching for it on os4depot. Nevermind how this will be done i just want to get your opinon about what kind of software it should contain.

one thing, will be useful have the AmiCygnix software and extra all in one directory of Os4depot. I thing a Cygnix directory will have to be on the depot site this because there are many and useful programs for amicygnix like gimp, abiword and so and so..

That's such a subjective thing though. Clearly I'm not a amigaos beginner so it's hard to judge, but when I was a linux beginner I rapidly got fed up of the massive bloat in the everything we think you'll need and a choice of programs to do it approach of the defaults distros.

So difference between my clean Update: partition and working partition.
(these are installed elsewhere but setup in amidock and wbstartup)

AOrganiser (WBS)
Filer (WBS as FilerCX)
Tunenet (AmiDock)
Wookie (AmiDock)
Blender (AmiDock)
YAM (AmiDock)
PFTP (AmiDock)
FileX( AmiDock)
OWB (AmiDock)
AWeb (AmiDock)

ImageFX, Wordworth, and Turboprint (but they are commercial) (AmiDock)

SketchBlock and ProAction are naturaly there too

Tunenet is dead.

AmigaAmp is still being developed and supported, get behind that

No cause is lost if there is but one fool left to fight for it.

Nice idea, Joel, hoping that you will succeed to build an AmigaOS pack.
(Sad that the test of Elyahyiu didn't succeed before yours)

On my system, the basic bag could be :

Utilities :
-DOpus 4
-MPlayer
-DVPlayer
-SketchBlock
-pFTP
-AmigaAmp
-MUI-OWB
-Qt + some Qt Apps (qpdfview + QuicklyTranslate + SMTube + QtWeb or InternetSurfBoard)
-AmiCygnix for Gimp
-Snoopy
-WarpView, Ranger, Cranu,
-FastView, SysMon, FastCompress, aTunes (of course ;) )
-PowerOff (poff or pegoff)

Games :
-eGame
-demos of WordMeUp and AskMeUp
-Hurrican, 1941 and Frogatto
-ScummVM + DosBox basic install

Dockies :
-Photoframe
-CPUClock
-NetDock (again, of course...)

Good luck Joel for this project ,)

Works perfectly fine here, applications don't need continuous development to work, if they work.

Aside from permission to repackage other peoples software, please be sure that your "install script" does version checking on EVERYTHING.

Releasing a installer that might revert future versions of programs or libraries would NOT be a helpful thing for a newcomer.

Yeah, i´ve havent logged into Jack for a while so i totally missed all the different bundles. A newbie bundle would be good and a game bundle. I m not going to do any installation scripts so dont worry about that

I think "beginner what?" is a good question.

It might be a good idea to have several packages which would all contain the agreed-apon basics that are handy under all configurations and then their own package-specific apps.

Then there could be:
Musician Beginner Pack
Office Beginner Pack
Graphic Artist Beginner Pack
Developer Beginner Pack
... etc.

Those packages are more likely to attract those groups than one general "beginner" package.

If you check for an example Jack and its bundles you find that there are already such kind of bundles. The beginner packages should be some useful programs from all kind of categories.

I didnt think the question would be so hard to understand. If you buy a new computer and for the first time start to use Debian. Wouldnt you like certain programs like, paint, musicplayer, videoplayer, office suite, browser, picture viewer, hardware monitor, compressor, email program, wallpaper changer? I guess Debian already have this and i also know AOS4 have alot of useful programs too. This was just an example.

Instead of my Beginner pack you want:
Musician Beginner Pack
Office Beginner Pack
Graphic Artist Beginner Pack
Developer Beginner Pack

Is that what a new beginner should start with? Its like: Hey, i bought a new amiga and i dont know anything about it or what to download. There isnt any startpackage for beginners but i see there is a Musician Beginner Pack. Lets start with that!

Doesnt make sense.

Someone who knows the developer should ask him how much would it be to open source the software, so one could create a bounty to buy it.
Im sure the AROS guys could get it working.

Its working with the patch from os4depot if we are talking about the radiostations. I asked the author earlier about making it open source and he was thinking about it but he is very hard to get in touch with. He answered my email 5-6 months after i sent it. If someone knows him its better to let that person contact him.

There's too much throwing random money at bountty's to open source things, if Bean wants to open source he will if not it stiull works and if not we have AmifaAMp as a fallback.

I'm sure they could as it's not actually broken a part from the hardcoded radio search is using an outdated URL. It's reaction based though so maybe not much use to them.

Best way to *fix* it would be to ignore the internal version and write a python/rexx/perl script to fecth and create a radio playlist from currently active sources.
