OS4.1 upd4 USB2.0 [Fixed see post##11]

Hi, I am having problems using USB 2.0 on my A1XE-G3 800.
I posted this on the pci card thread, but did not get a reply.
So I thought I would start a new thread, to get some help.

I have a VIA VT6212L card here, but no luck so far.

It is a 5 Port USB2.0 Internal PCI Adapter.
It is a VIA VT6212L chipset.

When I insert a device the usb notification comes up, but it take a while for an icon to appear on workbench, and it shoes up as USB0:Uninitialized, I then get a Disk_Warning!
that says
Quote:
Can't read root directory!
Can't mount this!

USB Inspector shows 5 entries under Functionality/Hub
Quote:
Rear Roothub (ehci.usbhcd/0)
Additional Roothub (uhci.usbhcd/3)
Additional Roothub (uhci.usbhcd/2)
Front Roothub (uhci.usbhcd/1)
Rear Roothub (uhci.usbhcd/0)

under Functionality/Mass Storage, it shows
Quote:
USB DISK 25X

PCIscan shows Quote:
15 0x1106 0x3104 VIA Technologies,Inc USB2.0

In Kicklayout I have uhci.usbhcd, ohci.usbhcd, and ehci.usbhcd enabled (upd4 default).

This is on an A!XE-G3 800.

Can anyone give me any ideas?
Should I try disabling the ohci.usbhcd in kicklayout?
Or will that cause more problems?

At the moment, with the above config, even onboard usb1.1 does not work.

Thanks in Advance.

Hi Swoop

Sorry I can't be of much help. I have installed this card

Digitus USB 2.0 PCI Card 4 + 1 Ports Model Number: DS-33220
Digitus USB 2.0 PCI Card 4 + 1 Ports

Features

? 4 x external USB 2.0 type A/female (480Mbps)
? 1 x internal USB 2.0 type A/female (480Mbps)
? Chipset: NEC 720101
? Supports USB high speed (480Mbps), full speed (12Mbps), and low speed (1.5Mbps) data transfer modes
? Compliant with USB specification revision 2.0
? Supports hot-swapping
? Operating systems supported: Windows 2000 / XP / Vista 32-bit/64-bit
? Accessories: 1 x manual

And it works with no problems - no drivers have been commented out and the front ports work as well (haven't checked the back ones but they are still turned on in UBoot)
This is on an A1XE - G3 800
I have recently had all sorts of disk problems but found my PSU was failing.

Have you tried with other USB massstorage devices? Maybe it's not the card, but the device that acts up. Not all USB devices are perfectly standard-conforming.

Best regards,

Niels

Could you disable the rear OR the front integrated USB ports of your AmigaOne and test again.

I've found that, with a VIA USB card, that it would not work correctly if either the front OR the rear integrated USB ports wer enabled. Only one or the other.

Hi Niels,

Both usb sticks worked fine before with the onboard usb1.1, so I don't think it is the devices.

All I have done is install the usbw pci card and connected the card reader to the pci card rather than the A1 motherboard. I had a powered hub in the A1 backplate usb sockets. (Which now doesn't work if I connect it)

There is a wiring diagram with the pci card, but I haven't checked that it corresponds to the card reader cable yet.

If I assume the onboard connector is for the front ports (I would like to keep the card reader connected), how is the best way to disable them.
There is prefs/uboot but I seem to recall someone saying it wasn't that reliable? It was a while back now.

I've used prefs/uboot to disable front, rear and both.
Each time I use NVgetvar, to check they were disabled in UBoot.
And I get the same response each time.

I have bought this USB2.0 2-port PCI-Card & 3 port internal hub
It is the version with the NEC chipset, so hopefully this will work.

All I can say is I had many problems with a via-based usb card and everything went to normal once I installed a NEC-based one. That was on a Peg2.

Hey, this USB2.0 2-port PCI-Card & 3 port internal hub works fine.

I have installed the hub as well, and all are working.
I don't know how to test the speed, but I can play .avi files from a 500GB external drive, with DvPlayer just fine. :)

The only problem(?) I have had is opening pdf's (with Amipdf) direct from the external drive. I just get a busy pointer. If I copy the pdf files to ram: Amipdf opens them ok. :(

Anyway it's a thumbs up for Maplin's.

I suppose it's just as I told you, you needed a NEC-based usb card like that one. Glad your problem's gone! :)

Certainly was, it worked on my A1 as well.
I'm so pleased.
