AmigaOne x5000 Thread
Just can't stay away
Just can't stay away

See User information
I would like to open the thread here to be able to ask my questions about the x5000 in the future, I know there was a lot of information about it but even here everything is scattered on Amigans and not always easy to find.

I am currently waiting for my new x5000/40 hardware which with luck will be delivered in 2-3 weeks. Here too I have decided on a complete system as I don't want to do much tinkering.

I've already had a lot of fun with the A1222 in the past and I can't understand the hatred or skepticism towards this hardware. But here too I want to go one step further and use the non plus ultra hardware that we can currently use for native AmigaOs4.1 and that is the x5000.

With the A1222 I was able to experience how real hardware feels compared to emulation (qemu) and yes it was a great feeling, I liked it so much that I will now go this way with the x5000.
Unboxing and lots of new videos with this hardware will also be available on my YouTube channel and I hope some of you will have fun watching me.

Congratulations!

I like my X5000/20 a lot, pity you can not purchase it any longer and X5000/40 is only available. Subscribing to this thread, interested how it performs comparing to X5000/20 :). In some threads @kas1e mentioned that /40 can be slower than /20 at particular operations, wondering if this is still the case or was resolved...

Congrats! I hope you'll enjoy it.

I can still remember getting my X5000. Can't believe it was way back in 2017. I bought just the motherboard from Amigakit. Had it delivered to work. Arrived on a Friday, started building it that night when I got home.

Sadly don't get enough time with it these days, but I will get a vicarious thrill watching your videos.

Yes, I have read that the x5000/40 performs slightly worse than the 20 version in some areas. But everything I've seen speaks against it, Linux supports all 4 cores and it was impressive to see what hardware can do when fully supported.

I'm actually glad that the 40 version is only available, this upgrade was developed after the 20 version and has 200 Mhz more processing power, plus 4 cores. Not relevant for AmigaOs4.1 at the moment as we don't have multicore support and it will be a few years before that happens, but when the time comes this hardware will be much more powerful.

As soon as the hardware is available I will do some performance tests to confirm @kas1e's thesis. But maybe I'll come to a different conclusion - we'll see.

Congrats on the X5000. I'm on my second - I bought one years ago, loved it, sold it, regretted it, bought a new one, and still have that one to this day. It's a lovely machine and I enjoy it.

X5020 are sold out. X5040 are being sold from the stock and no new productions are planned. A1222 will end at some point also. So there will be no new hardware for OS4...

Wondering if it is worth upgrading from X5020 to X5040, or just purchase X5040 and keep it as a spare :D

I got my x5000/40 about a year and a half ago. And it makes the OS4 experience feel great. So much better than emulation. It was expensive, but I have spent far more on computers over the past few years that I don't enjoy using or have had to replace several times. I look forward to seeing your youtube channel and all new OS4 exposure.

Thank you for the kind words. I'm just another AmigaOs4.1 maniac and love my hobby.

I still have a question.

@trixie

You are using an ESI Juli@ soundcard could you tell me a bit more about it. ?
This sound card seems to support 24-bit/192kHz, but how does it behave under AmigaOs4.1 with the current drivers and which sound card exactly has this sound chip?

In general, I would like to know which sound card offers the best sound experience under AmigaOs4.1 with the x5000 and supports it best. My hardware will contain a Soundblaster Audigy FX 5.1.

It's the PCI version, it features the Envy24-HT chipset, and it works fine in my X5000 and Sam440ep-Flex. The card does support 24 bits, but the current AHI driver will unfortunately only record in 16 bits.

Based on my testing, the SoundBlaster Audigy FX V2 would be the common user's best choice, if geennaam hadn't opted to withdraw his driver from distribution.

Congratulation for your new Amiga.
I love it this computer.
It's like a real workstation like the Sun Blade 2000 of Sun.
But with AOS and MorphOS.
It's possible with a simple trick to install Linux in a thread disk.

I suggest you a case with vertical slot for the GPU.
For install second GPU to increase the performance of the whole systems.

Did you buy this card separately or did you get it in a set with x5000 ?
If you bought it in a set then ... I am at a loss for words

Yeah, the Audio drivers which the developer worked hard on and were sold and/or bundled with systems sold.

The only thing the developer asked for was to respect the license that came with the driver. (which can only be respected)

Since we have many developers around capable of creating drivers for AmigaOS4 and new hardware, losing talented people like Geennaam is not a problem. A job well done!

X5000 is a cool system, the only problem with it is that there is not more people that own it so software development can commence in full swing. The price of the system is cost prohibited to enjoy more brisk sales. Also, it seems availability is now a problem. I still enjoy mine but maybe not as much as my Vampire V4.

What is the 'official' way of powering up a 5040 after shutting down or a hard reset? First, I reach around behind the tower to switch off the power supply. Next hit the power button about 10 times to discharge the motherboard, switch the power supply back on, then power up normally. If this ritual isn't followed, the machine crashes with some sort of motherboard error when restarting. This is indicated by the flashing LEDs on the motherboard.

Apparently, this is normal behavior. Is everyone okay with this, or is there a better way?

Never experienced such a thing from my X5K20.
Shut down with power button by hitting once.
Starting up with power button by hitting once.
Every now and then it may boot and not be 100%. Like the other day, I had no networking for some odd reason. I reboot and all was well.
If you are having to do VooDoo to boot an X5K, I think something aint right.

Sounds typical voltage/current problem.

How old is your psu?

I might try change psu first. Motherboard fixing is another story. I am changed capasitors before to mobos, but it is out of question today. @Kas1e surely knows people who can do motherboard repairing. Or someone else here.

It is most likely electrical prob anyway.
