I was wondering if there was some sort of memory tester for AOS 4.1. I've been seeing a lot of instability with my x5000 lately. From what I've experienced before, it looks like it might be memory related, but I'd like to confirm.
Okay, I finally isolated the problem to my RX 580 video card. Not great news, but it could be worse. I tried an RX 560 and that was a no-go. The only thing that works is my RX 550 I cannibalized from my SAM 460.
Could I ask what other X5000/040 owners are running as far as RX 5XX cards? That is the card manufacturer and model name? It would be nice if I could get a 580, but a 560 that works would be fine.
It may be best to wait until AOS4.1FE update 3 is out before making any additional purchase decisions (even though that has been expected for years at this point...). You can also try changing the GFX card power settings around to see if that helps.
Anyone knows if the Power Managemt Prefs is reacheable via Arexx or maybe script something in icon info of power hungry games/apps? Would be kool, Amigastyle.
Okay. I think I may come super-duper close to solving the problem. I copied the two libraries in the Libs:Warp3DNova/ dir from the Amedia Rescue USB Stick. Things seem to be a lot better now. Apparently Amedia has more recent versions of those libraries than what's available on the Enhancer software. I'm not going to ask any questions, but I'm gonna make a backup or two of the Amedia Rescue stick.
@kishigo May have nothing to do with an unstable graphics card but rather RAM problems. What RAM sticks you got? And do a backup of that stick, it's nice, I got one too ;)
@khayoz Yes I thought about that too. I used memtest and it passed all the tests. Here's the thing though: the memory that Aeon recommends has latency timings of CL10, while the memory I have is CL11. In the PC World, that doesn't make much difference. It's just a teensy bit slower. I don't know about the Amiga NG World though. I ordered the memory that Aeon recommends from Ebay, but ran into a snafu and waiting for it to get corrected.
At any rate, the libraries I copied seem to be helping. I'll continue to go through the rescue USB stick and see what else I can copy. I just want to be careful not to copy something that doesn't work.
