Looking for free/cheap A1200 HDD
Not too shy to talk

See User information
I don't suppose anyone has a spare working 2.5" drive less than 4GB they want to part with have they and are based in the UK - I'll pay towards shipping and if its worth anything I'll make an offer?

I'm trying to get Evil's Doom SE '98 working on my A1200 still and am planning on building an OS3.0 install only on a new disk - I still think, even with an OS3.0 partition on my HDD currently inside the A1200, that it is referencing some of the 3.9 stuff.

Gotta get this game working.

Rude!

P.S. Apologies, I couldn't see a "wanted" or "classifieds" section anywhere.

I might be in the market for a larger HD as well, provided it's larger than 80MB. :)

Got a 6GB one with 2.5" lead about here somewhere.

Also a 3GB 3.5" one with a 2.5" to 3.5" lead too also has a split power cable to attached to the floppy port.

Both fit in an A1200 you just need to take the top RF shield of for a 3.5" and drop it in a anti-stat bag.

@JC

The 2.5" sounds ok, although I always struggle with knowing what to do with the old 4GB partition limit?

I don't want to hack this A1200 so I'm ruling out the 3.5" ones - how much do you want for the 2.5" drive?

@Chris

Is it a 2.5" drive and were you serious or was that a top trump joke only? How much?

@thread

Thanks for your feedback and offers - I'm after 2.5" drives only, I guess its better if they are in the Uk as shipping will be minimal (unless I get it from Elbox )

Yes it is.
The drive was about 180 - 200 MB, so pretty useless.
It currently has:

4GB 2.5" IDE
64MB RAM
Blizzard 1230/50MHZ
Quad Speed CD-ROM Amiga Q-Drive

and is connected to a TFT monitor.

I want to try a new HDD inside the machine to run OS3.0 exclusively, see if I can get this damn game working. Severely puzzled by it.

2.5 drives are quite expensive.

Sounds like your having fun with that which is better than sitting in the box in my garage.

@Rudei,

I have a Squirel/CDRom which I used only once or twice (bought new about 3 or 4 years ago from anal.)... I think it could also be used to hookup an external HDD ?

// Me wonder it I don't have also a 300MB HDD somewhere...

I have an Overdrive 3.5" drive case that connects via the PCMCIA slot - I could try that but I need the CD-ROM to run the game (and yes, I have tried installing to disk and running from there but didn't work, probably for same reasons which I still don't know)

I suppose I could try and install the Overdrive with 3.0 but I need a drive, then try again to install the game to HDD and put the necessary assigns in place to run it off disk? I used to run with 3.1 ROMS and 3.0 OS.

I need some assistance on how to get around the 4GB partition limit - I take it I need to install something that is less than 4GB if I am only running 3.0 - in which case I need a 3.5" drive that is less than 4GB - so to summarise:

Has anyone got a drive that is less than 4GB which is either 2.5" or 3.5" in size I can have off them please?

I bet you it doesn't work and it turns out to be a cruddy library, although snoopdos doesn't give any clues!

Have you got any small indepenant computer repair shops near you? they normally have a back room full of old wrecks they use for spares, you can usually get old drives from places like that really cheap, I got a 2gb hd for my mums A1200 by buying an old laptopwith a smashed screen for ?2 that way.

I got one for my A600 on Ebay for $20 plus postage.

It was 3Gb and it works a treat!

I would check out Ebay if I were you.

No, I'm serious. It's free, just give me a bit of notice if you want it so I can pick it up.

You can use it under 3.0 as long as you don't partition it past the 4GB limit.
