I cant wait for it to be completed. The timeline says its due July 2011. He really struggled with things at the very beginning, so it will be interesting to see if he can make that milestone by the time he planned.

I'm not keeping my hopes very high, so if he actually completes it any time in 2011 then I shall be both surprised and very happy

Well, since it was a Linux dude, it was a bit tricky, but he survived.

Some people say this should be a guide what to change for OS4 to be friendly to non Amigans

It's also nice to get input from "others" about how our amiga is to program/port on.
Is it still going as intended? I see the last update is july.

I saw in video Trevor said at AmiWest that OpenOffice (for Kids) is still being worked on OS4. So he hasn't jumped yet!

No, he did not kill himself.

As far as I understood OO for Kids will be OO Lite,
or something like that.

Yes the Wiki link is missing all the info (apart of all his troubles) but clear deadlines are set with more time to go. What can I say - watch the page.

Indeed, a lot can be learned of what needs to be changed with OS 4.x to make it user friendly to "outsiders"

As I understand it, OOo4Kids and OOoLight will share the same codebase but their interfaces will fork, one focusing on the educational/kids side, the other going for a more general purpose office look.

If I am correct, I expect that we'll be able to choose which one to install, as long as both interfaces are AmigaOS-friendly.

I think progress has halted since May.

http://wiki.ooo4kids.org/index.php?ti ... up/AmigaOS&action=history

I think the perl bit has broke and is in the Amiga Perl developer hands.

Until the perl bit is fixed nothing is being done.

shame really. I had high hopes that alot of developers would tackle different sections to speed up development to within this year.

Well, from this page it seems that the 18 October 2010 Eric succeded with "first configure completed!".

Guys, that's really cool!

I think he *already* ported it to another PPC platform, and afterwards the idea of porting it to (PPC) AmigaOS4 was suggested to him.

That changelog looks to me as if it is for several platforms (not just OS4), so he seems to be maintaining/improving it for other platforms too (after the initial port). e.g. "Started OpenBSD port."

I can affirm even if there was a slowdown in May, the progress was not stopped.
The Perl issue is over (thanks broadblues) and the configure step is ok.

I don't want to say much more because I want to avoid any speculations.

Please remember it is a huge project. The initial roadmap was written months ago.
I don't know if it can be achieve in 6 months but the work on this port continues.

The goal is to have oolight which name suits well what it will be, the content is basically the same than oo4kids but without the aspect for kids.

Is there any progress ? Even though if actual roadmap will be fully out of sync ? Or is it silently sort of stopped ?

Anybody knows something ? (Please mark as "rumour" if you donnot not know for sure)

Thanx
