Good news! I have information with respect to writing an AmigaInput driver for the Catweasel's joystick. I shall - as usual - keep you all informed.

No update on the AmigaInput front yet - I'm missing some includes (which hopefully Rogue will be able to provide soon).

In the meantime, here's V1.6 of catweasel.device: http://www.retroreview.com/iang/Catweasel_20100911.lha - I did forget to change the version strings on SuperDiskImage though. :)
In this archive is:
devs/catweasel.device - the device driver!
devs/catweaselsid.device - the SID driver.
vice/x64 - Vice-2.2 C64 emulator compiled to use SIDs (one or both)
prefs/catweasel - The **NEW** preferences file. :) Make sure it's configured correctly! I've not got 1541 disks working with 40 track 5.25 drives yet, but the rest should work. Actually, I've not tested a 40 track 5.25 drive at all yet, but will do soon.
utilities/SuperDiskImage - fair few bug fixes. May still cause problems, not sure... but mostly working.

This is still a debug version - which means it's dumping stuff to the serial port. If you run Sashimi (OS4depot has it) you can see the output (and if you pause sashimi by typing in the window it'll run faster as it's not displaying the data).

Please, any and all feedback gratefully received!

Just updated the archive again. Added icons for the files, and some bug fixes to SuperDiskImage.
Also, now, Superdiskimage only shows the disk formats available for your hardware - less huge drop-down boxes! And changed the date in the titlebar. :)

If you need mountlists, I uploaded mine to http://www.retroreview.com/iang/CatweaselMountlists.lha - TD0 and PH0 are the main ones, but there's weird ones like TF0 (5.25" Amiga) and od0, oh0 and s0 (360K, 1.2MB and 320KB MS-DOS respectively). Some of the mountlists are redundant now that I have the prefs program working, though.

Edit: Found a problem with the way I was loading prefs. Worked around it, but for now you need to be sure that the catweasel.device has no open references when you "Save" or "Use" from the cw prefs. Alternatively, reboot after changing settings. The archive is now updated. :)

That's the plan!

Looks like I've managed to break the writing support, though - so don't use that version above yet for general usage. I'll upload a fixed version as soon as I've found out what's wrong!

your best bet (and cheapest way) is to look for cheap 64's or 128's locally at flea markets, EBay etc. then just pull the SIDS.

I've found out why there was a writing problem with yesterday's archive - it's the latest firmware I found!
I've gone back to the older firmware, that should work better. Otherwise it's identical.
Usual place:

Please let me know how people get on!

Excellent, welcome to the club. :)

I was looking at getting a tunenet plugin, and thinking it's impossible, as the Catweasel/SID combo is a sequencer - Tunenet presumably requires a buffer to be filled, which is quite different.

However, Jens has just sent me the CW Mk4 documentation, and it allows for programming the SID as a sequence! So I should be able to do something with it. Not certain yet, though! I think it also explains why the latest firware doesn't work with writing....

don't libsid2 take care of that stuff?
have you looked at it?

I would imagine that libsid2 would actually synthesize the sid chip, filling a buffer which is then played. That's no use for sequencing, which relies on real timing. However, it should be possible with the Mk4 anyway.

allright!

standing by here with a catweasel mk4, a4k keyboard connected, and one 8580 sid installed.

there is no way to use the a4k keyboard yet, right?

i can't test the sid yet, as i need a cd audio cable.

i started x64, and got this output:

Setting sid engine... 1
Setting sid engine... 7

is that good?
it means it found the sid correctly?

oops.. i selected catweasel mk3 in the vice settings, and got:

Setting sid engine... 2

followed by a crash.

maybe i installed my sid in the wrong slot?

xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
......aaaaaa....b.......
.....................b.......
.....................b......
.....................b......

the line of x's marks the back of the card.
the slots are marked with a's and b's. i have my sid in the b slot.
i configured both slots with the jumpers, maybe i should only have jumpers on the one i have the sid in?

This is what the leaflet of my CW MK4 says

xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
......aaaaaa.....b.......
.....................b......
.....................b......
.....................b......

There are four jumpers (TJ=Triple Jumper, SJ=Single Jumper)

AAAAAAAAAAAAAA
.................TJ1.SJ1...B
...................SJ2.TJ2.B
..............................B
..............................B
..............................B

If your chip sits in A you have to shorten TJ1
if it sits in B shorten TJ2

The single jumpers are only needed if you use a 6581

Here's a picture

You will also have to "Enable" your SID in the prefs

Just tried it here and it's crashing again - typical! Go back to the StereoSidCatweasel.lha archive thingy earlier in the thread - that was tested more thoroughly. Since then I've had to hack around with things again. Can't look at it now, but should be able to get a working version up tomorrow with the new firmware, which I've got running now.

If that archive doesn't work either, I'll see if I can reproduce it here.
