THe HP PCS 2510 (not a laser-printer) actually printed something (the usb.log content) - but it was only 100 lines of text and nothing happend for 5-10 minutes - printer just said "printing".
But when I closed down the Amiga - the printer actually printed the content?!
The PCS 2510 is a multi-function printer (scanner, fax, printer) -

If you have a Dot4 printer attached you will get a line which says 7,1,3 as per this example: 010 free ID 03f0:0e17 (7,1,3) Hewlett-Packard, hp LaserJet 1015
If it isn't Dot4 it will say 7,1,1 or 7,1,2.
At least here, I never get anything about IEEE 1284.4 in usb.log.
The links that I have found easily and put on my last answers aren't sufficient to found a DOT4 printer ???
For sure, It's possible to see the online manual of the printer on the manufacturers site to found real DOT4 or Not.
RWO, what do you think about this bounty (sponsored by amiga users) ??? You need hardware, you baught one and we paid (of course not high level price hardware
NOTE: I'm sure there will be low cost DOT4 printer on the supermarket near us...

Im sorry if this sounds dumb but im not that well up on this. Are ALL new usb printers Dot 4 or are some usb printers not dot 4? Im looking at a cheap brother 3 in 1 printer were i work. Also, if we get Dot4 working on OS4.1 for a HP printer say, will all or most Dot4 printers then work on 4.1 or will a driver/drivers have to be done individually? Cheers....

Thanks, that will be useful for others - i already know that my HP Business InkJet 1200 is a PCL3GUI printer.
That's partly what this discussion is about - nobody seems to know which are Dot4 and which aren't! The consensus seems to be if it is an HP it is more likely to be Dot4.
If Dot4 is supported for one printer/manufacturer then it will be supported for all - barring the usual slightly-out-of-spec implementations.
Unfortunately Dot4 won't help if you don't have a driver for your printer. Again, HPs are generally OK here as they (with few exceptions) are all PCL or PS so the old HP_LaserJet drivers work even if they aren't optimal.

Yes, i agree, what is the next step now with regard to the bounty? Im new and not sure how it works. Also, does anyone know if there is anyone who has a working usb printer on OS4.1?
IMHO, this is a special bounty who give hardware to developpers, we wait after RWO for some informations.
- Someone could give a printer to rwo (IMHO postage=Bounty).
- Rwo could buy a DOT4 printer for development (second hand or new=bounty). His goal of course is to choose a DOT4 printer that not cost too much for the bounty.
This is also a kind of test IMHO and if something is possible with the help of the amiga sers, maybe this process could be used for other hardware, I hope.
1. Good list, informations about DOT4 printer. Maybe someone with a PC (not me) know where searching informations.
2. Rwo ask us the printer he has choosen (and the cost and new or second hand) and he wait the money. When money on the bounty, he take the money, buy the printer and do a working driver.
It's how I see that and the best is to wait rwo point of view (and we could see he answer sometime on this thread).
BOUNTY:
Yes, this is a special bounty. Often someone propose a missing software for the amiga or porting missing libraries,... and users give money or not on the project. This to show the interest on the project. BOUNTY is before starting and donations is during or after the development.
Timberwolf is easy to understand and well known programmers (an example). Sometime, a bounty is proposed but no money on because all wait to know the name of the programmer and if It's a best programmer, money will follow (eg. JIT for UAE).
