In v1.3 there is a new option to change the way the datatype info is added. It can be turned off, or get when click on an item.

Dimensions in the status bar makes sense. But now could not always be available. I will think about it.


For GoogleDrive, Dropbox and FTPMount, I am not sure how to check if it is actually mounted or not. I am just scanning the list of devices. Do you know what I should be checking for?

I noticed that it was mounting GoogleDrive too in the same manner as was mentioned earlier. I was wondering if you were doing something special, but I guess it is just waiting to be mounted when searched for.

"INACTIVE" volumes are supposed to auto-mount only when you attempt to access (e.g. lock or open) a file/folder on them, so that you can access the file/folder (if it exists).

I haven't yet checked whether there is a way to tell if they are marked as INACTIVE, but I would be pretty surprised if there was not... EDIT: I can't find out how to check this, but many AmigaDOS features can be pretty obscure, so there may well still be a way... I wonder if "dvp_Lock" is NULL for such devices?

Fixed the mounting issue of inactive volumes.

Version 1.3 has been released on Aminet, OS4Depot, AmiUpdate, Amiga On The Lake, and "Check latest version" in Tools menu.

You can now select when to check what datatype a file is, or not at all.

The changes list looks great! Listing of folder contents definitely feels a lot faster now (after changing some settings). So hopely I can now frequently use Workbench Explorer But some small observations:

One 'bug' I noticed is that the Preferences window (which IMHO should be titled Preferences not Windows Explorer!) claims that FTP Mount is NOT installed... but it is! Could this be something to do with me having ACTIVATE=0 ? edit: Yes, this seems to be the cause. Maybe it should say "Not detected" rather than "Not installed"?

What is the effect of it not detecting FTP Mount?

For reference, Filer scans the same folder in 3.7 seconds (i.e. in nearly half the time). Maybe there is some other bottleneck? (e.g. Maybe generating the little (default) icon for all the files?)

I also noticed that the file's datatype doesn't update when it's clicked (selected). That happens only later, when it is DEselected. I guess you are aware of this, and it's just difficult to have it behave any better?

About FTPMount issue: If WEx shows 'FTPMount not installed' you can't create/define user defined ftp sites' (last checkbox on such option).

The speed difference between Filer and WEx is mainly creating the lists. There is more going on with WEx behind the scenes.

Changed to "not detected." Good idea.

The datatype updating itself is a happy accident. It is doing it on it's own. I tried to do it manually but became more of a headache. Maybe down the road still...

If you use Prefs->Datatypes->When select an item, or Never, then Filmstrip
view style will NOT show any images. And it will not show any files if you
have Prefs->View style->Filmstrip->Show only drawers and images.
If WEx doesn't know what type the file is, then picflow.gadget doesn't, either.

- EditNodeNoDrawer() was expecting the wrong variable, so several default

- If made permanent changes in Preferences to Bookmarks or Favorites, then hit
Cancel, the changes were not reflected in the main window.
- Top line is remembered when change view style.
- If no preferences file exists at startup, the defaults are saved better.
- Content context menu wasn't honoring found picflow.gadget or not.

- Play button is now Play/Stop. No longer recessed; it was hard to see.
- When checking for FTPMount, "Not installed" is now "Not detected" if not
active but installed.
- picflow.gadget is now in the Tools folder so doesn't need to be installed
to use, but still can be. WEx will look in CLASSES:Gadgets first, then Tools.

is there any timeline for implementing users FTP sites ? thid option is greyed currently unless I make something wrong (like not installing FTPmount??)

You have to have FTPMount installed and active. Then when Add, it just needs name and password (optional) and address.

ah ok thanks ! I did not know it was mandatory to installed FTPmount to get this feature !

Hi,
I found something which might not work as it should:

1. copy a drawer containing 2 files to RAM:
2. add a third file to the source-drawer
3. select the source-drawer again and select "copy"
4. go to RAM: and select "paste"
5. you are asked 3 options: "copy and merge", "Do not copy" and "copy, but keep both drawers". Select "Copy and merge"
6. a new requester appears with the same options but pointing to the first file already present. Select "Do not copy" and checkmark "Do for all remaining conficts"

7. the third file added to the search drawer is not copied to the destination drawer.

It does not matter if I go back to the source-drawer and select "copy" after having added the third file.
If I do not checkmark "Do for all remaning conficts" in 6. then the third files is copied and after that I am asked again for the second conflict.

I think it is supposed to skip the existing files|conflicts in the subdrawer when I checkmark "Do for all remaining conflicts" the second time, without asking for confirmation and copying all files which do not exist in the destination folder.

Thinking about it, I'm not sure which would be the best behaviour if it finds other subfolders, maybe containing further subfolders; should it ask again for each level or just skip once the second level "Do for all remaining conflicts" has been selected?

Is this expained in an understandable way?

If I followed your steps correctly, the third file IS copied for me. If you are not seeing a conflict requester for the third file, that is good, it is not a conflict. But it is copied.

I've seen FTPMount mentioned in this topic a number of times. The FTPMount from OS4Depot stopped working for me as of OS4.1FE. I fixed the included sources for my own use with Dopus4 but I'm wondering where you and others are getting a working version for use with OS4.1FE. Have you tested FTPMount with Workbench Explorer?

I use FTPMount to access my WD My Cloud. Works just fine.

FTPMount is a bit finicky to install and get running. Running on my X5000 Pre-Release OS.
