UAE and networking?
Not too shy to talk

Hi all!

Anyone know whether UAE on AmigaOS supports networking?

Using UAE-JIT, I've been trying to see if I can get the UAE
environment to see the net. I've tried the latest 0.8.29
from aminet as well as others...

I saw the UAE docs mentioned setting this line in the config:

bsdsocket_emu=true

Done! I also installed both the old a2065 driver and it's
aminet replacement:

http://aminet.net/package/driver/net/Ethernet

And I installed my old MiamiDX, but no go. It seems like
any attempt to connect with the ethernet driver goes nowhere.
Whether I try query the device in settings or just try to go
online, it just says soemthing like:

"unable to open ethernet/a2065.device unit 0".

Maybe I'm just missing some other UAE config setting?

Anyone have any better luck? Have any tips on getting
network access?

I even went so far as to try using those ethernet drivers
from Shapeshifter (it still works better than Basilisk),
but that similarly unsuccessful.

Thanks in advance,

PJS

It does not support network, but it should be easy to map bsdsocket.library 1 to 1.
no one has tried to understand that code yet, I guess.

unrelated problem, it's a low level API, I think network support on E-UAE can be done on higher level.

re: networking and Shapeshifter - Within the 68K environment
it appears to simply use a SANA device to make its connection.
I figured if the device (and underlying UAE support) were working,
SS could just get online.

Obviously that isn't happening if UAE isn't doing its job.

The problem with Basilisk is that it seems to be A LOT less
compatible on the Mac side than Shapeshifter was. So even
if its networking was working, it's of less use. :/

c'est la vie,

PJS

Basilisk II is hooking into SANA device API, it not a device.
