What thumbnail viewers are available for OS4
How good are they,

It's the tab at right side from "general", that appears after press "ICONS"

To enable "previews" in the workbench you need to open a workbench window, then from *drop down* menu (not the popup / context menu) slecte show all files, then you will se that two more options enable, show .info and show previews, tick the Previews option to get thumbnails for that drawer instead of def_icons.

Only files with no true icon get a preview. Previews are created for images and some text files, they are cached for speed (see the preferences window you snapshotted).

You can also set the preview settings via the drawer/volumes icon information window, icon tab.


Aplicationwise, MultiViewer has a thumbnailing option since version 2.x, it's reasonably fast and runs in the background, it can be started or stoppped at any time.

Yes, it is.

Here you configure the size and cache of thumbnails or previews.

To active, go to drawer or volumes, icon information window, icon tab.

And select "yes".

The fastest one I've found isn't for OS4 it's 68k, http://aminet.net/package/gfx/show/PictureOverview

You get the odd DSI if you try the rotate functions but they are recoverable. It;s not the easiest program to use as it has a drawer list window that you have to add entries to before you can access them but it is fast.

Depending on the task you have, iBatch might be helpful:

iBatch creates thumbnails from a given directory. In case of an embedded "exif thumbnail" it will be extraceted from there, rather than creating a new one.

Thumbnails can then be viewed via any thumbnailviewer (e.g. "LoView" or above mentioned "thumbs"). However there is also thumbnailviewer included, which enables you to quickly put images on a "Batchlist". You can flip through those images and select them via keyboard or mouse. It is really fast - ideal for selecting the best images.

After you selected the images (created a batchlist) you can process those images:
- rotate
- scale
- choose output format (jpg, bmp, png, iff...)
- transfer EXIF Header, create EXIF Header
- create (preview) Icons
- create slideshows
- create website
- add watermarks, sharpen, gamma correction....

Plus, it is fast, because every picture is only processed once and EXIF embedded thumbnails are used!

Thanks, that works. What's more using the "rename" function i am able to copy the file name to clipboard.

It still would be nicer if, next to rename you had the choice to save the filename (or filepath or both) to clipboard directly.

The task i am tackling is selecting from a lot of (sub)drawers the images i want to put in a number of html pages (website)
So having direct acces to the relative filepath directly would be the best.

I could test locally if a link <img src="ThisSubdrawer.thatImage.jpg">
is recognised.
The "rename" possibility is a big progressin how i can work, but still...
Maybe Thomas Rapp can add this possibility to Thumb.
I love its ability to launch it from shell

its indeed very fast. It comes also with the possibility to "rename" an image, so i can save it to clipboaard. Its possibility to define the directories you want to work with is great too. You can easily open more than one directories you need.... Much to explore

well this is one way:

,Project,Name to Clip,CLI,echo NOLINE `C:PATHPART FILE %f` >TextClip:0

Note the PATHPART bit is in backtics...

But reading the doc

DH0:Documentation/Commodities/ContextMenus.doc

(see what I did there?)

%o is replace by filename without path so just

,Project,Name to Clip,CLI,echo NOLINE %o >TextClip:0

would work too.

I know this is off-topic, but I really like that "Name to Clip" ContextMenu entry.

Is there a quick and easy way of going the other direction---using a hotkey or menu option to rename a file with the clipboard text?

single click the files icon, press ramiga-r then ramiga-v, check what was pasted then press enter.

Or if yout're really lazy:
