Odyssey spoofing
Just can't stay away
Just can't stay away

See User information
I'm recently unable to access my email settings because of these new requirements:

Desktop Browser (Minimum display resolution: 1024 x 768)
For PC:
Internet Explorer 11** (latest and previous versions)*
Microsoft Edge
Firefox (latest and previous version)*
Chrome (latest and previous version)*

For Mac:
Firefox (latest and previous version)*
Safari (latest and previous version)* (Mac OS X only)

I don't know if spoofing will work but I would like to try spoofing as the latest versions of the above listed browsers. Is there any way to update the browsers and browser versions that Odyssey can spoof??

@xenic,
I had the same problem, I changed the spoofing string with an hex editor,
for me it worked maybe it can work also for you, if you want
I can send you the modified version of odyssey so you can try it

Just set the Odyssey user agent environment variable.

OWB_USER_AGENT [user agent string]
overrides the user agent configured in settings

Use SETENV to set it and UNSETENV to clear it.
(SETENV with no input parameters list the global variables.)

In a shell type this to set it to the latest Window 7 Chrome browser:

SETENV OWB_USER_AGENT Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 6.1; WOW64) AppleWebKit/537.36 (KHTML, like Gecko) Chrome/56.0.2924.87 Safari/537.36

Type this in the shell to clear it:
UNSETENV OWB_USER_AGENT

A list of user agents can be found here:

You need to enclose the string in double quotes:

SETENV OWB_USER_AGENT "Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 6.1; WOW64) AppleWebKit/537.36 (KHTML, like Gecko) Chrome/56.0.2924.87 Safari/537.36"

- otherwise the semicolon will end what is stored in the env variable.

Best regards,

Niels

I've done a lot of program Hex editing over the years, so I can do it myself. However, I prefer to try the Environmental method first.

@ktadd & nbache
I'm assuming that the OWB_USER_AGENT variable needs to be set before starting Odyssey so I would need to quit Odyssey, set a new variable and restart Odyssey in order to change user agents.

@all
Thanks for the help. I'll try some new user agents tonight.

dummy question alert...

And what exactly should one see in Odyseey after this variable is set?
I see no change in spoofing options, but do see the variable as being set.

Not sure if helping, but there are sites that simply refuse to serve if they can't find a string they like in user-agent. So what you get, depends!

Odyssey isn't smart enough to read the variable and display it in it's options, but you can easily check what spoofing is active by seaching for "user agent" in your preferred online search engine

Why on earth would you want to read your emails in an Amiga browser? SimpleMail (or YAM) will give a much superior experience IMHO...

It is indeed...

Unfortunately over the last years many email providers/ISPs changed their login rules to only accept SSL from updated clients.
In my case YAM started to break with web.de last summer due to AmiSSL3 being too old.

I guess the something similar happened to xenic

I had to rely on the browser and my ISP's web page to read/write emails.

It's a glorious PITA coming from YAM and i'm anxiously waiting for a new YAM which uses AmiSSL4 to get finally back to a powerful email client

SimpleMail may work better? At least I see these mentioned in it's change log:
Quote:
* Updated OpenSSL version to 1.0.1u
* TLS support for SMTP servers (SMTPS, port 465)
* STARTTLS support for IMAP4 servers
* For AmigaOS 4.x, a version statically linked against OpenSSL will be temporarily provided, at least until AmiSSL has been updated. For this version, OpenSSL 1.0.1j is used.

Yep, SimpleMail was faster on supporting those websites, but i'm a YAM guy and there is nothing so far that will change that...i love YAM

...and i happen to know that there is a new version in the queue, now that AmiSSL4 has been released

me too, but changing the executable you can see the new value
on the menu and you can set it when you need it,
changing the environment variable its a global and hidden setting

I read my emails in YAM. I need to access my email account to change SPAM settings, empty spam folder, change or add email addresses etc. I also have important accounts at other sites that have announced they will only support the latest versions of a few browsers.
