Boot problem SAM460ex

Trying to boot, I immediately hear an intermittent beep
The boot halts quiet early with the message

Hard disk not found.
Aos4 FLB
FLB: no SLB found in any of the designated boot sources': returning to U-boot
Press any key to continue
Seems I have access to u-boot's clip there e.g. Help shows me the commands
What can I do?


I also tried to boot from the OS4.1 cd , but it is not detected and I get the same results

maybe trying to boot with the os4 cd to see if your HD is dead ?

Just tried that, see above: the cd is not detected and I get the same messages
I the problem occurred when connecting an old keyboard and booting.
Could USB hardware be the cause?

Using the u-boot "menu" command I was able to the boot-sequence/OS Multiboot Options

I have
Boot device 1 3x12 SATA Hd
Boot Device 2 USB. HD
Boot Device 3 3114 SATA HD

I tried to change Device 2 to USB DVD
It is not clear to me how to save this however. I just reboot, and verifying with menu I see nothing is changed: still USB HD

Try the following command from the U-boot shell
This shows if the SATA controller is recognized :.

pci

if it is them check what is connected :

sata info 0

Have you tried replacing the battery?

does it show the SATA card ?

Looks like your sata card could be loose .
What model do your have ? 3114 or 3512

Don't know what the boot 1 Device 3x12 SATA HD stands for

Should probably be
Boot Device 1 3114 SATA DVD

i get far less info only vendor and type of controller

I guess my HD is broken.
I got the information from my neighbour (PC hardware & SW knowledgeable) that to boot from a cdrom you still need 80 MB on the HD
(He checked connections of the cards & HD)
He also gave a hint for replacing the battery, however since the problemappeared so suddenly with small hop, this wouldbe the cause.


I'll start up my SAM 440 in the mean time
Can anyone remind me of the voltage it needs, seems i have 2 converters 9 V & 14? V that i can plug in

If you are not seeing the sata info for the Hard drive as well as the DVD drive then the SATA controller is likely the problem

- connect the HD and see if it is recognized by the BIOS and/or the loaded OS.
Beware, NOT to write anything on the HD of course or it will destroy your Amiga partitions.

Have you the last u-boot from acube?

Depite what your friend tells you, you don't need an HD to boot from the CD.

It looks as though your NVRAM settings have become corrupted. You tried to change the "Boot2" setting but you were unable to save the new setting. Here is how to save the new setting:

(1) Change what you want to change, hit Enter.
(2) ESC to get out of that menu. On about the second or third ESC, a menu will appear saying something like "Exit and save settings" and "Exit without saving". Choose the line that saves the settings.

Steady wasn't joking when he suggested changing the battery. They are so cheap and they fail so often that it is worth while replacing it "just because".
If you (or your friend) have a meter, you can measure the voltage from the top of the battery to the chassis - it should be greater than 3.0 V. They usually start at about 3.2 V, fall gradually and when they fall below 3.0 V, you will start having problems.

Don't try reversing the battery or moving the jumper "to clear the memory". It's a myth in the PC world and you can damage your Amiga.
