How do you get a background in AmiCygnix? Just get Basic X11 Grey BG
Just popping in

Good day everyone,

I've installed a few apps after installing the user base files but when I boot into AmiCygnix, I get no control bars or desktop icons. Anyone got any idea what I'm doing wrong?

You MUST install the base file and the tools file, both of them.

Do I execute something other than the server? I still just get the gray x11 screen with the x pointer.

These are the current results of my setup for AmiCygnix it's a real pain in the arse to set this bad boy up, at least for me, despite the GREAT included installer:

I'm using IDesk Desktop Manager as the desktop manager and no toolbar.

As TSK,I'm using IDesk Desktop Manager as the desktop manager and no toolbar.

This works fine for me.

I still can't get AmiCygnix to work properly. When I first launch the preferences I get this error:

Resized Image

This error pops up after I close the preference editor, just prior to asking me if I want to start the application.

Then after I launch, the IDesk Desktop Manager doesn't start due to an inability to find the output display.

I was able to capture the output to the console window from the process:

I don't know why I've had such horrible luck with AmiCygnix. They way everyone seems to be suggesting, it should be just basically install and it just works with no configuration. Anyone know what I'm doing wrong?

Thanks!

Add PROFIMODE tooltype to myX11Setup icon, (re)start it and from menu choose 'Env-Variablen-Editor' option, make a grab a post here result. there you can see (carefull, and change!!!) AmiCygnix ENVVARs.

Didi you install irt from scratch? Or just copied from an old place/backup you had?

Hmm - it seems, that your installation is messed up.

First: I recommend to use the standard tools: "openbox" as the window-manager, "idesk" as the desktop-manager and "lxpanel" as desktop panel and no toolbar. Only these are well tested and supported. Programs like "Motif Window Manager (mwm)", "Rox-Filer" are kind of experimental.

I suggest to launch the script "Reset-Environment.bat" located in "Cygnix:S/Utilities" on the Workbench after a fresh reset. Afterwards the AmiCygnix Desktop should start with the default settings.

If you like to edit the AmiCygnix settings, please use "myX11Setup". Only the base package is needed for this.
The tools package has some additional tools like "gsetroot" as a second way to change the background.

P.S.: It is always a good idea to refresh the caches with "Refresh-ALL-Caches.bat" also located in "Cygnix:S/Utilities" when it is working again.
