Hi all! Please help! I have a Pegasos2 NG Amiga computer. On OS4.1FE, there are problems with Warp3D and sound! BUT! Also on this machine under MOS 3.11 is all good! So no HW error! But then what could be the problem ?! See Youtube Videos, please! Changing the AHI settings does not help! There is an EMU10K sound card in the machine, but the problem remains! Any idea?! Thx!
Its the same old story. I have that issue with noise pitch sound when use some of minigl/warp3d apps even 10 years ago on my peg2. And i have that issue with inbuild peg2's audio (if i remember right).
I reported it all over the places again and again back in times, but nothing come up from it. Only some discussions that it can be timing/priority issues.
In other words, if that issue wasnt fixed before, it probably will stay :(
For me that issue was easy to reproduce with game 'i have no tomatoes'. And if i remember thing right, on the higher resolutiond that nasty sound come up early, in compare with lower resolutions
@Capehill If i remember right, back in times we discuss that issue and made some tests with ppls in charge, but nothing come up from. Maybe minigl are guilty, and maybe it can be fixed, but all of this need lots of testing , time , etc, from topic starter, as well as found someoone who will fix it. Probably unreal for today, sadly.
Okay, well I found the BZ item, reported in september 2015. I don't have a Pegasos so cannot really help.
For some audio-related issues that I saw with MicroA1, it usually helped to configure a larger buffer for AHI (which causes some extra audio latency games).
MiniGL is not guilty, apparently the Warp3D implementation is, or more precisely the R200 driver in combination with certain Peg2 boards. I once tried to find the cause of this inside the R200 driver, but without luck, I gave up at some point. I found out that the symptoms can be minimized by lowering the work of the rasterizer. So especially stuff like compressed textures, lower display res, 16bit depth, etc. significantly lower the chance / the frequency of those symptoms to appear. With some games using compressed textures was good enough to make the problem vanish (which is of course no solution).
The "problem" imho is that there were to many "great works" back in time than that "Ehy there is a problem"... When Sam 44x series came out from Acube, a lot of bugs were fixed but this happened because the sam44x's users start to complain about what went wrong.. So my guess is that few peg2 users complain about the bugs..
I have a Sam440ep board and I haven't all these problems but trust me, we gave a lot of feedback.. so my advice is to go to hyperion's forum and post all your problems there.. do not give up..
From your video about AmigaOS 4.1, I saw that you have a dock in the top right side, in your WBtitlebar. Some years ago on first versions of AmigaOS 4.0, I had placed such dock in the title bar on my AmigaOneXE. I noticed with some games, sound and sometimes picture distortions, and figured out when I closed or removed that dock, it fixed this issue. Could you just give this a try?
AmigaOS4.0 was developed on AmigaONE-SE/XE hardware had many issues and problems, any audio problem was assumed to be related to IRQ problems or something wrong with the hardware, Don't buy sound blaster it hugs hardware, don't buy this and that..
Personally I think priorities are wrong in AmigaOS4.x.
USB mouse too often stops working on heavy load (AmigaONE-XE). Sound too often have problem under heavy CPU load (jitter).
I think things like USB stack, AHI should have most priority in my option. things like intuition, shell command and stuff like that should have lower priority,
Prior to Warp3D Nova, 3D was really bad, rendering bugs in old games, walls becoming transparent in Heretic 2, shadow broken WipeOut 2097, I'm sure this problem exists even today on Radion cards.
RadionHD uses completely different drivers, and there is completely different Warp3D being worked on, I sure this problems are fixed for people who are lucky to own a newer computer, for people who own a older computer like yourself. Maybe not so lucky..
I think Pegasus 2 got port of AmigaOS because it was seen as better hardware then AmigaONE-XE, but what video shows in my option is not every fault can be contributed to hardware. and clearly there are rooms for improvements.
I think maybe intuition locks, and bitmaps locks can be responsible too, if not the priority, if a program has not completed drawing what it needs to into intuition, before next program requesting lock, in this case 2en program forced to wait for 1st program, 2en program might not be able to fill the AHI buffer at the right time.
The best thing to do, is deactivate what you can from wbstartup.

Basilisk II for AmigaOS4 AmigaInputAnywhere Excalibur and other tools and apps.
I tried everything - low resolution in the game (640x480x16) = the same mistake - game settings minimum = the same mistake - low resolution of OS (640x480x8) = the same mistake - more AHI settings = the same mistake - more audio card (Peg2 integrated and emu10k1 SBLive! 7.1 too) = the same mistake - deactivating WBStartup = the same mistake
...
the voice sucks, beeps, lag = ONLY Warp3D
Hyperion has not responded since July 15...
I will try one more thing... switch GFX card ... R9000 -> R9200 or 9250
@nubechecorre I don't doubt that, but you also said that a long known issue didn't get fixed, because Peg2 users didn't "complain enough", which sounds funny to me.
This is just like television, only you can see much further.
