Nice to see a new game in the works.
I have one small suggestion for the camera: it might look better if you simulate a human trying to track the space ship. What I mean is, have a slight delay between the space ship turning, accelerating or decelerating and the camera moving to catch up, like what you'd see if a human was filming. I can't find the demo video I saw this in, but
here's a tutorial that explains the basic idea (amongst others). It really did make that example animation look more realistic.
Of course, if you want to recreate the look of older games, then you'd stick with the "space-ship always centred" style.
It looks like it'll be a fun game, either way.
