Looks handy being able to chat on the various chat protocols using the one software package.
Have read throught the instructions but can't get my head around sending or receiving messages to irc.
Jabber itself seems straightforward and there are instructions for MSN and some others but not irc.
Any ideas would be much appreciated.

You're doing it the wrong way round. use amirc or wookiechat and use http://www.bitlbee.org/ to access IM's

afaik you can't access irc via jabberwocky.

I just saw what looked like IRC transports and thought, I could use these.

In fact you can, all you have to do is to find a Jabber server that provide the IRC gateway. I don't think there are so many out there, but you can access IRC using Jabber client.
