They (Hyperion) were actually showing it at Amiga34, it took some time to start (running on Pegasos2), but I was able to write some text lines of formatted text... (took some pictures as a proof too ;)
As I'm able to run office.com (Wayfarer on MorphOS), I would say that the speed under Wayfarer (G5 Mac) vs. LibreOffice (Peg2) is way slower... so I surely hope they'll find some resources to finalize the work with the LibreOffice.
@Mikey_C It's like saying, if I will buy something, and will do with it exactly what? If you don't know what, then why buy it or why even thinking about it ?:)
But seriously, isn't it's clear that there will be never a modern browser and office app? Our oses will always be for "fan", and not for real work. There no big companies, not big money and blablala.
And no, what have MorphOS now also can't be compared with today's browsers on popular OSes: big-endian issues all over the place, and some sites will always crash or not works, as they use little-endian for granted in their javascript code.
Those who today use amiga and AmigaOS do it not for the hope that there will be a browser or office :) Like, there nothing interesting, but use browser and office ?:))
Browser are moving targets with large teams behind it. It is impossible for a small platform with limited number of developers to cope there. It would be a endless run where you always lag behind.
The same is true for open office. I do not believe there will be ever something useful and even if, it propably would be very very demanding
If you want to use OS4 hardware then buy and use it with what is there already and not expect it to be useful for todays tasks.
I don't agree same is true for Open Office / LibreOffice. Having functionality parity with Office 2003 plus DocX formats is enough, nothing useful got added to Word/Excel since then for home user. So it is not a moving target really. Apps like Hollywood offer different but actually more powerful system for presentations than Powerpoint does. Outlook is not useful. MUIBase with sqlite exists if you want Access type function.
Heck, I'm happy with running Office 4 for Mac via ShapeShifter...
@NinjaCyborg "Office" will be the same alien, buggy, slow, without normal amiga GUI, unsupported, unmatained, and all that stuff.
Instead, there need for a normal amiga-native office app, yes. Just not bloated as an office, no fancy schmancy unnecessary crap, just basic functionality. Cinnamon Writer was about to be that app, but...
Actually even Amiga Writer with little improvements could've worked,...
I remember using WordWorth back at 90's with my A1200, it was more than sufficient to manage my studies... actually something equivalent to Word97 would be enough (with little bit improved doc support).
Shame that all "once so good softwares" have deceased...
I wasn't arguing that we need MS Office specifically or that we need full featured enterprise office apps. Not really sure what it is you're trying to argue about with me.
Well sure a good layout engine is complicated thing, but as you write we already have really old programs that does that, that maybe need some minor improvements.
Anyway, the problem is not really table images, some fonts, and pages, but actually the file formats, being able to share work with other people, and having the documents look correct.

Looking at the story of FinalWriter (the guy who bought the source code has had it in development for five years, yet all he's been able to show so far is a few AROS screenshots), I'm afraid it might actually need more than minor improvements.
@trixie That's possible, but the FinalWriter sources can't be that bad. I suspect the main issue is the lack of free time to work on side projects from the sole developer Kalamatee.
This is just like television, only you can see much further.
